Job Opportunity: Intensive Care Unit Registered Nurse - Nights

Location: Columbus, Ohio
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Schedule: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (Night shift)
  • Patient Ratios: Approximately 1:1 to 1:2
  • Experience Required: Minimum 2 years of ICU experience (highest requirement)
  • Prior Travel Experience: Preferred but not required

Required Certifications

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA certification only
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA certification only
  • NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)
  • All certifications must be current and from AHA-approved providers

Required Skills and Competencies

  • Proficient in IV starts
  • Experience with telemetry monitoring
  • Competency with ventilators
  • EPIC electronic health record system experience is required
  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam required prior to start
  • Unit-specific competency exams required
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required within 1 year of start and updated annually (with remediation process if needed)

Required Licensure

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license for Ohio
  • License verification required within 30 days of start

Background and Screening Requirements

  • 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, including FBI and state fingerprinting (BCI/FBI)
  • Fingerprinting must be completed using specific state codes and within 1 year of start
  • Education accreditation verification from an accredited nursing program (CCNE, ACEN, or NLN CNEA)
  • Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug test within 3 months of start (no pending tests allowed)
  • Employment application and skills checklist required
  • Two professional references required (at least one from a manager or formal leadership)

Health and Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease
  • Immunizations or titers required:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (adult dose after age 11/12)
    • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year
    • TB questionnaire annually
    • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella (2 MMR vaccines or positive titers)
    • Hepatitis B titer or 3-vaccine series (declination acceptable)
    • Varicella (2 vaccines or positive titer; medical exemptions reviewed)
    • Seasonal flu vaccine or declination during flu season (10/1 - 3/31)
  • COVID-19 vaccination is not required but strongly recommended

Additional Facility-Specific Requirements

  • Annual acknowledgment of dress code and hand hygiene policies
  • Annual fraud, waste, and abuse training certificate required
  • Annual ethics and compliance policy review and acknowledgment
  • Orientation safety manual acknowledgment required annually

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Ohio
  • Minimum 2 years of ICU (Intensive Care Unit) experience, including experience within the last year
  • ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • NIHSS certification
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Proficient in IV starts
  • Experience with telemetry monitoring
  • Competency with ventilators
  • Experience with EPIC electronic health record system

Summary

This is a travel contract position for an experienced ICU Registered Nurse with a minimum of 2 years ICU experience and required EPIC system proficiency. Night shifts with 3 twelve-hour shifts per week. Multiple certifications and competencies are required, along with thorough background checks, health screenings, and immunizations. Prior travel nursing experience is preferred but not mandatory.
