Job Opportunity: Case Manager - Registered Nurse

Location: Redlands, California
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Case Manager role primarily for the Emergency Department (ED) with most services offered.
  • Pediatric patients and newborns are transferred out.
  • Tertiary level care including STEMI and neurological services are transferred to higher-level care.
  • No trauma or burn cases.
  • Average daily census: 15 patients; 22 rooms, 34 beds.
  • Every other weekend shift required.
  • Navy blue scrubs required (not provided).

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in California
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
  • Minimum 3 years of Case Management experience, with Case Management experience within the last year
  • Experience in Emergency Department (ED), Intensive Care Unit (ICU), Medical-Surgical (Med Surg), and Progressive Care Unit (PCU) settings
  • Experience in an Acute Care setting
  • Proficient in Admission Criteria, Care Coordination, Concurrent Review, Determining Medical Necessity per Evidence-Based Guidelines, Needs Assessment and Ordering Durable Medical Equipment (DME), and Plan of Care development
  • Skilled in utilizing InterQual Criteria
  • Knowledgeable in CMS (Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services) guidelines and HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) regulations
  • Certifications required:
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) issued by American Heart Association
    • BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by American Heart Association
    • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) issued by American Heart Association
    • MAB (Management of Assaultive Behavior)
    • NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)

Required Certifications (as applicable to ED RN role)

  • BLS (AHA only; RQI not accepted)
  • MAB (AB508 compliant certificate required)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA only, required for ED RNs
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - AHA only, required for ED RNs
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) - if applicable
  • Other certifications may be required depending on specific unit assignment

Compliance and Documentation Requirements

  • Background checks including SS trace, county searches, nationwide sex offender, and international searches if applicable.
  • Drug screening: 10-panel including THC within 30 days of start.
  • Immunizations and health screenings including:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (updated every 10 years)
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray (with specific protocols for past positives)
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B titers or vaccination proof
    • Seasonal flu vaccination or declination with mask requirement
    • COVID vaccination plus booster or approved exemption
  • Physical exam within last 12 months.
  • Fit mask testing with approved respirators.
  • Various facility-specific acknowledgments and signed agreements related to abuse reporting, confidentiality, code of conduct, and safety manuals.
  • Professional references (2 within last 2 years) required for some agencies.

Additional Information

  • Candidate must be able to sign and comply with facility-specific policies and training.
  • Photo for badge must meet dress code and photo guidelines.
  • Must be able to work in a non-trauma, tertiary care ED setting with a focus on case management and care coordination.

This position is ideal for experienced RNs with strong acute care and case management skills who are comfortable working in an ED environment and coordinating complex patient care. Prior travel experience is a plus but not mandatory.
