Job Description

• Provide nursing care in a Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) setting.
• Patient ratio typically 1:1 to 1:2; ratios may vary if floated.
• Patient population includes fresh heart surgery patients, ventilated patients, chest tubes, lumbar drains, and patients with chronic and acute renal failure.
• Equipment experience required with devices such as Impella, IABP, and CRRT using Prismax, or experience with fresh heart cases.
• Required skills include post-op open heart recovery, Swan-Ganz catheter, Flotrack, temporary pacers, arterial lines, and chest tubes.
• Experience with surgeries such as CABG, MVR, AVR, and TAVR preferred.
• Floating required to all ICUs, PACU, ED for ICU holding patients, and all IMC units.

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in New Jersey.
• Minimum 2 years of CVICU experience, with CVICU experience within the last year.
• Certifications:

  • ACLS issued by American Heart Association or RQI issued by American Heart Association
  • BLS issued by American Heart Association
  • NIHSS
  • IV Certification
  • ONCC certification
• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing.
• Experience with Impella, IABP, and CRRT using Prismax.
• Experience with fresh heart cases and post-op open heart recovery.
• Experience with Swan-Ganz catheter, Flotrack, temporary pacers, arterial lines (A-lines), and chest tubes.
• CVICU experience with fresh open heart surgeries including CABG, MVR, AVR, and TAVR.

Schedule & Time Off

• Every other weekend and holiday required, as applicable.
• All time off or schedule accommodations must be approved prior to offer.

Licensure & Compliance

• Active RN license in New Jersey required.
• Must pass criminal background check within 30 days of start.
• Drug screen required within 30 days of start.
• Negative TB test or chest X-ray required within 3 months of start.
• Physical exam within the previous 12 months required, stating clearance to perform essential job functions and free of communicable disease.
• Respiratory medical clearance and on-site fit testing required prior to start and annually thereafter.
• Influenza vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required annually.
• Color vision testing required if job tasks require color discrimination.

Additional Requirements

• Completion of medication/pharmacology competency exam, dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam, IV therapy/infusion exam, and other required competency exams within 72 hours of signing contract.
• Pass/fail testing for EKG and medication knowledge with remediation process if needed.
• Annual education sign-off and facility-specific orientation required prior to start.
• Completion of safety and compliance training including OSHA, HIPAA, and Joint Commission annual training.
• Must complete facility floating policy acknowledgment for every new assignment.
