Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Opportunity

Location: Berlin, Vermont
Specialty: Registered Nurse (Med-Surg: Acute M/S Tele RN)
Contract Length: 16 weeks

Job Description

• Assignment duration: up to 32 weeks (current contract length 16 weeks)
• Unit: Medical-Surgical, Acute Med-Surg Telemetry
• Schedule: Minimum every other weekend or adjusted to unit needs
• Procedures performed at bedside: NG tube insertion, peripheral IV insertion, telemetry strip interpretation
• Holiday work: Must work 2 out of 4 holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas, Christmas Eve, New Year's Day)
• No block schedules; work Monday through Sunday
• Bi-weekly orientations on Mondays (next available orientation date provided separately)
• Reliable personal or rental vehicle strongly recommended due to lack of public transportation
• Vehicles should have all-season or snow tires from November through April

Requirements

• Certifications:

  • AHA BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • AHA ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) required prior to starting
  • Telemetry certification preferred
• Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years Med-Surg telemetry experience OR 3 years telemetry experience
  • Prior travel experience required
  • Must have completed 2 travel assignments in 300+ bed facilities OR previous experience at any University of Vermont Health Network acute care facility
• EPIC electronic medical record experience within the past 2 years is mandatory

Orientation & Scheduling

• Orientation offered bi-weekly on Mondays
• No block scheduling allowed
• Must explain any employment gaps over 90 days
• Complete and detailed work history required (including bed count, EMR, facility type)

Important Notes

• Public transportation is not available; reliable transportation is essential
• Vehicle must be equipped for winter conditions (snow tires recommended Nov-April)

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

Background Checks

• Background check within 30 days of start, covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years
• Includes SSN trace, county checks, nationwide sex offender, FACIS Level 3, Vermont Crime Information Center (VCIC) for VT placements, NY statewide search for NY placements
• New background check required if gap of 30+ days between assignments at University of Vermont facility

Certifications

• ACLS, BLS, PALS (if applicable) must be AHA certified (no recommended renewal dates accepted)
• Tech certification verification within 30 days of assignment start
• Orientation safety manual acknowledgement required annually
• State license primary source verification within 30 days of start and upon expiration
• NURSYS verification within 30 days of start and updated annually

Competencies

• Medication test/pharmacology competency exam required for all RNs
• Color blind testing required
• Competency exams as required by specialty

Health Documents

• Physical exam within 12 months of start
• N95 fit test required prior to start and updated annually (approved mask types specified)
• Tdap vaccination within past 10 years required
• Negative TB test (PPD, QGold, or TSPOT) within past 12 months; chest x-ray if positive TB test
• MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella): 2 vaccines or positive titer required
• Hepatitis B series and titer or signed declination
• Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive titer
• Drug testing within last 12 months (required for NY facilities)
• Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption required during flu season (Oct 1 - Mar 31); declinations not accepted at this facility
• COVID-19 vaccination or declination required
• Pneumonia vaccination or declination required if assigned to NY facility

Facility Specific Documents

• Passport-style photo for badge (plain background, no logos/hats/sunglasses) due 2 weeks prior to start
• Review dress code and telephone usage policies prior to start
• Auto registration form must be completed within 48 hours of signed contract
• COVID testing protocol on Day 1 of work (if required)
• Completion of EPIC and Cornerstone training modules prior to start (approx. 8 hours, non-billable)
• Vermont Adult and Child Abuse Registry consent form required
• Emergency contact form completion required
• Hepatitis B and Pneumonia vaccination declination forms if applicable
• NameTag verification setup required
• Workday information attestation required

History & Verification

• Two professional references from assignments within last 3 years
• Employment application required
• Skills checklist within last 12 months
• Verification of 2 years of most recent clinical work history

• Reliable transportation and winter vehicle preparedness are critical due to location and weather conditions
