Job Description

• Position: MED/SURG RN for a community hospital
• Patient Population: General Medical/Surgical, Total Joint and Spine Surgery
• Provider Support: Interpretation services, lift teams, pharmacy, phlebotomy, physical therapy, radiology, rapid response teams, respiratory services, social services, transportation, unit secretary
• Provider Coverage: Hospitalist
• Work Schedule: On call, weekends, float required between four other MS/Tele units
• Tele buddy responsible for strips
• Documentation System: Meditech
• Communication: SBAR
• Dress Code: Blue scrubs (not provided, must be plain/no logos)
• Orientation: 24 hours

Experience Requirements

• Minimum 2 years of experience in MED/SURG nursing
• No first-time travelers accepted (prior travel experience required)

Certifications Required

• BLS (AHA only)
• ACLS preferred

Additional Requirements

• Prior travel experience required (no first-time travelers)
• Must be able to float between MS/Tele units and work weekends/on call
• Must adhere to dress code and documentation standards

Compliance and Onboarding Requirements

• Background checks including SS trace, county searches, nationwide, sex offender, and international if applicable
• Drug testing (10 panel including THC) within 30 days of start
• Immunizations and health screenings including:

  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (updated every 10 years)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray (with specific protocols for past positives)
  • Rubeola, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella titers or vaccinations
  • Flu vaccination or declination (mask required if declined)
  • COVID vaccination plus booster or approved exemption
• Fit mask testing prior to start
• Professional references and employment verification
• Various facility-specific acknowledgements and signed documents related to abuse reporting, confidentiality, code of conduct, and workplace policies
• Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement
• Medication and competency exams as applicable

This position is ideal for experienced MED/SURG RNs with telemetry skills who have prior travel contract experience and are comfortable working in a dynamic hospital environment with a diverse patient population.
