Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - Home Health

Location: Largo, Florida
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 20 weeks


Job Description

  • Provide skilled home health nursing care (Medicare, Medicare Advantage, and Commercial insurance patients)
  • Perform 6-8 home skilled visits per day
  • Patient care includes:
    • Cardiopulmonary assessment
    • Basic wound care, ABI compression dressing, wound vac dressing
    • Pleurx/Aseptdrain care
    • Foley catheter change and care
    • Staple/suture removal
    • Use of glucometer and pro-time machine
    • SQ/IM injections
    • Lab draw venipuncture
    • IV skills, PICC line or Midline care and dressing change
    • SQ port access/deaccess
  • Manage general medical diagnoses and high-risk diagnoses such as heart failure (HF), COPD, myocardial infarction (MI), pneumonia, and stroke
  • Post-operative care
  • Work hours vary based on HomeCare office needs, including:
    • Monday to Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM or 9 AM to 6 PM
    • Thursday to Monday or Friday to Tuesday shifts
    • Alternating weekend shifts
  • Visits and hours are self-scheduled based on office needs

Required Qualifications

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse (Home Health)
  • Experience: Minimum 1 year of nursing experience (home health experience required)
  • Must have infusion experience and skilled home care experience (private duty nursing experience only is NOT accepted)
  • OASIS training and experience required
  • IV skills and wound care experience required
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable car required for home visits
  • COVID-19 vaccination or approved exemption required
  • Flu shot or declination required; mask wearing mandatory at all times while at work
  • BCLS certification required
  • Scrubs: Any solid color

Certifications & Competencies

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA or RQI accepted
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA or RQI accepted (if applicable)
  • Other certifications may be required based on unit assignment (e.g., PALS, NRP, EFM)
  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam required (score 80% or higher)
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required for certain units (100% lethal arrhythmia score)
  • Stroke education CEUs (8 total) including NIH Stroke Certification and mRS (Modified Rankin Scale) for relevant units
  • CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) may be required for behavioral health or ER units
  • Color Blind Testing (Relias) required prior to start
  • State license primary source verification required
  • NURSYS verification required for all RNs

Health & Safety Requirements

  • Physical exam within 6 months of start
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 10 weeks of start (or within 1 year if past positive PPD)
  • Annual TB questionnaire required
  • Immunizations or titers required for:
    • Rubeola (Measles)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Hepatitis B (titer, series, or declination)
    • Varicella
  • Standard 9-panel drug test within 30 days of start (instant tests not accepted)
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or declination with mask requirement
  • COVID-19 vaccination or approved exemption
  • Respirator medical clearance annually if respirator use is required

Documentation & Compliance

  • Valid driver’s license must remain current throughout assignment
  • Background checks required within 1 year of start, including SS trace, county searches, nationwide, sex offender, education verification
  • Fingerprinting: Florida AHCA Level II fingerprint results required prior to start; Livescan electronic fingerprinting recommended
  • Education verification required for all healthcare professionals
  • Foreign equivalency evaluation required if education was completed outside the USA or Puerto Rico
  • Photo for badge required prior to start (clear, professional, solid background)
  • Personal or auto insurance required for Home Health positions
  • Completion of BayCare Health MSP dress code and tobacco policy acknowledgment
  • Completion of BayCare Health MSP account registration and mandatory online training modules prior to start (approx. 4-8 hours)
  • References: 2 references from the past 2 years required
  • Employment application and skills checklist required

Additional Notes

  • Candidates must be able to use laptop, MiFi for internet access, and portable printers for documentation
  • Documentation and compliance requirements are strictly enforced; failure to maintain certifications or complete required modules may result in removal from assignment
  • Scheduling flexibility is required due to variable shift patterns and alternating weekends
