Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Opportunity

Location: Rochester, New York
Specialty: Registered Nurse (Med/Surg Telemetry Unit)
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Unit Description

• 14-bed overflow med/surg telemetry unit for ED boarder patients
• Flex space inside GI Endoscopy area; patient census may fluctuate
• Float required
• Weekend coverage every other week (EOW)
• Open to block scheduling but not guaranteed
• Locals accepted only if within 75 miles
• Minimal Return to Origin (RTO) restrictions
• Unit accepts first-time travelers

Required Experience & Skills

• Minimum 1 year of RN experience (highest requirement)
• Previous charge nurse experience preferred
• EPIC electronic medical record system experience required
• Competency in:

  • Medical/Surgical Telemetry nursing
  • IV placement (PICC team involvement, but RN should be competent in IV insertion)
  • Dysrhythmia interpretation and management
  • Use of Rapid Response and Code teams
  • Peripheral line care and management
  • Oxygen administration (nasal cannula, oxygen tanks)
  • Non-invasive airway management
  • Isolation precautions

Certifications Required

• BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA provider/instructor/RQI accepted
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA provider/instructor/RQI accepted
• PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - as required by unit
• NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) - as required by unit
• TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) - as required by unit
• EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring) - as required by unit
• NIH Stroke Certification - required for all RNs except birthing units and OR
• Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement
• State License Primary Source Verification within 30 days of start
• NURSYS Verification within 30 days of start

Health & Compliance Requirements

Candidates must complete health-related requirements and lab work within 5 days of signing the contract:

• Physical exam within 1 year of start (updated annually)
• Fit mask test within 1 year (Halyard duckbill 1870+1860 Regular or 1860 Small)
• Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
• TB Questionnaire (in lieu of annual TB test renewal)
• Immunizations or titers for:

  • Rubeola (Measles)
  • Mumps
  • Rubella
  • Hepatitis B (Surface AB positive titer, completed series or declination)
  • Varicella
• Drug screening within 30 days of start (includes amphetamines, cocaine, ecstasy, fentanyl, heroin, opiates)
• Seasonal flu vaccination or signed declination (required during flu season)
• Snellen eye exam within 1 year of start
• COVID vaccination copy preferred but not required

Background & Documentation

• Government-issued photo ID required
• 7-year criminal background check within 3 months of start (including SSN trace, national criminal, sex offender, education verification)
• EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 3 months of start, run monthly
• Foreign equivalency education evaluation if applicable
• Transcript/diploma if no education verification on file
• Education verification from primary source required
• References (2 within 3 years) required for Aya candidates only
• Employment application and work history verification required
• Skills checklist required annually
• Facility-specific documents including photo for badge and pre-employment compliance attestations

• Scrubs color: Navy blue/white
• Prior travel experience is NOT explicitly required for this position
• First-time travelers are accepted

This opportunity is ideal for a Registered Nurse with at least 1 year of med/surg telemetry experience, comfortable with fluctuating patient volumes, and able to float within the unit. Strong clinical skills in dysrhythmia management, IV placement, and emergency response are essential.
