Registered Nurse (ED) - Travel/Contract

Location: Utica, New York
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Work in the Emergency Department (ED) of a brand new, state-of-the-art hospital facility near downtown.
  • Due to high patient volume, patient-to-nurse ratios may stretch beyond 1:4 to 1:5 or more during surge periods.

Requirements

  • New York RN license
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in Emergency Department specialty
  • Certifications:
    • BLS (Basic Life Support)
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
    • TNCC or ATCN (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
    • NIH Stroke Certification
  • Experience with Epic electronic health record system required

Certifications & Training

  • ACLS and BLS certifications must be current and preferably AHA certified (ARC accepted initially but must update to AHA)
  • TNCC certification required for ER staff
  • NIH Stroke Certification valid for 2 years
  • Harassment Prevention Training (New York state required, annual)
  • Medication/Pharmacology Competency Exam (minimum 80% score)
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam (required for ICU, PCU, ER, CT ICU, and 7th Floor M/S Unit; expires every 3 years)
  • Color Blind Testing (required prior to start)
  • Competency Exams as applicable to profession

Health & Safety Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start
  • Fit Mask test (N95 respirator fit test) within 1 year, updated annually
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year (PPD, Quantiferon Gold acceptable; Tspot not accepted)
  • Immunizations or positive titers required for:
    • Rubeola (Measles)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Hepatitis B (titer, declination, or vaccine series)
    • Varicella (positive titer, vaccine, or history of chickenpox)
  • 9 Panel Drug Screen within 1 year of start (instant drug screen acceptable)
  • Seasonal Flu Vaccination or Declination (required during flu season: Sept 1 - Mar 31)
  • Pneumonia Vaccination or Declination required

Documentation & Compliance

  • Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID)
  • Emergency Contact Form required prior to start
  • Background checks including 7-year search, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG (updated annually)
  • Education Verification and Florida Education Audit Confirmation (for RN/LPN staff)
  • Facility-specific documents including:
    • Photo for badge (headshot, plain background, no head coverings)
    • Online learning modules to be completed prior to first shift
    • Signed Job Description and Welcome Packet acknowledgment
    • Omnicell form signed by nursing staff
    • Pneumococcal declination form if applicable

References & Experience Verification

  • 2 professional references required for travel, allied, and per diem acute care roles
  • 1 professional reference required for per diem non-acute care roles
  • Skills checklist required annually

  • Patient ratios may increase during high volume/surge periods; no guaranteed 1:4 ratio
