Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (RN) - Oncology Unit
Location: Reno, Nevada
Employment Type: Travel Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Overview
- Role: Registered Nurse (RN)
- Department: Oncology/Cancer Unit
- Shift: 3x12 hour shifts, Days (06:45 - 19:15)
- Weekly Hours: 36 guaranteed
- Call Requirements: None
- Holiday Requirements: Must work 2 of the 3 major holidays (Eve + Day = 1 holiday)
- Float Requirement: May be required to float within competency level
- Additional Shift: Required to pick up one additional shift during schedule period
- Schedule: Includes weekends, holidays, and some call shifts
- Work Environment: Extremely busy, fast-paced Level II Trauma Center serving a 500-mile radius
Unit Description
- 27-bed Oncology/Cancer Nursing Unit
- Mixture of oncology and medical-surgical patients
- Primary patient population: chemotherapy admissions and complications related to disease process
- Administers various chemotherapies/immunotherapies including HD Methotrexate, induction/consolidation for Leukemias, Rituximab, R-EPOCH, R-CHOP
- Remote telemetry monitoring capability
- Telemetry testing and ACLS certification not required
Required Qualifications
- Licensure: Nevada RN license required prior to start
- Certifications: BLS required; ONS/ONCC Chemotherapy Immunotherapy Certification preferred
- Experience:
- Minimum 2+ years RN experience
- At least 1 year of oncology nursing experience
- Prior Travel Experience: Not explicitly required
Job Responsibilities
- Provide optimal patient care using nursing knowledge and skills
- Accountable for individualized patient outcomes over entire episode of care
- Deliver comprehensive nursing services to adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients and their families/caregivers
- Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care
- Coordinate care with other healthcare professionals as needed
- Demonstrate cognitive and psychosocial understanding specific to patient population
- Maintain ongoing professional growth and learning
- Exercise judgment and decision-making in a fast-paced environment

- The facility is a Level II Trauma Center with stroke accreditation and 800 inpatient beds
- The pace and volume are comparable to a Level I trauma center
