Registered Nurse — Infusion & Ambulatory Treatment Center

Overview

  • Travel contract for an oncology/infusion nursing role in an outpatient ambulatory treatment center.
  • Contract length: 13 weeks.
  • Shift: 8-hour days.
  • Hours: 40 per week.

Required Qualifications

  • Active California RN license.
  • BLS certification.
  • ONS chemo/immunotherapy provider card.
  • 2 years of experience.
  • Recent or active chemotherapy administration skills.
  • Vascular access skills, including peripheral IVs, port access, and Hickman/PICC maintenance.
  • Strong pharmacologic knowledge.
  • Strong ability to manage hypersensitivity reactions.
  • Strong skills in lab evaluation as it relates to oncology treatment.
  • 2 supervisory references, including at least one charge-level reference, within the last 12 months.

Unit Details

  • Outpatient infusion center with 13 infusion chairs.
  • Primary patient population: oncology patients and community patients receiving infusion-related treatments.
  • Common treatments include chemotherapy, hydration, blood transfusions, injections, antibiotics, and management of hypersensitivity reactions.
  • RNs are required to titrate drips.
  • No tele monitoring on the unit.
  • No dedicated nursing aides on the unit.
  • Basic oxygen equipment is available.

Scheduling and Work Expectations

  • Nurses self-schedule.
  • One weekend day is required per 4-week schedule.
  • No call or standby requirement at this time.
  • Floating is required to inpatient units to provide inpatient chemotherapy.
  • Travelers are first to be adjusted if schedule changes are needed.

Orientation and Dress Code

  • Orientation includes off-site and on-site components, followed by department orientation and competency completion.
  • Navy blue scrubs are required.
