Registered Nurse - ICU
Location: Marshfield, Wisconsin
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Unit Overview
- ICU with 16 beds plus 2 procedural beds
- Nurse-to-patient ratios:
- 1:2 typical
- 1:1 for higher acuity patients (e.g., CRRT, immediate post-op heart patients, massive transfusion protocol)
- 1:3 for med-surg/floor status patients
- Patient types include cardiovascular surgery (CABG, AVR, MVR, AAA), trauma (level 2 trauma center), NSTEMI/STEMI, vascular surgery, neurosurgery, general surgery, orthopedic surgery, ENT surgery, and other surgical ICU patients
- Intensivist and respiratory therapist coverage 24/7
- Respiratory equipment includes vents, BiPAP, CPAP, Vapotherm, etc.
- RNs monitor their own telemetry strips (GE monitors) without tele/monitor tech support
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Wisconsin
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Minimum 2 years of ICU RN experience, including Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU) experience within the last year
- Experience with high-acuity patient populations
- ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- NIHSS certification
Scheduling & Work Environment
- Shifts: 0700-1930 or 1900-0730
- Self-scheduling for staff; agency nurses scheduled to unit needs
- Weekend requirement: every other weekend or more if willing
- Holiday requirement: every other holiday or more if willing
- Charge nurse on every shift, usually does not take patient assignments unless census requires
- Nursing house supervisor available 24/7
- One nurse aide during day shift; typically no aide at night
- Clean and professional dress code, no specific scrub color required
Orientation
- One day system onboarding and computer-based training
- Two orientation shifts on unit with skills checklist completion
Additional Notes
- Prior experience working at this facility requires a minimum 6-month gap before reapplying
- All clinicians must clock in and out at the facility
- No call or standby required outside of scheduled shifts when census is low
Experience Requirements
- Specialty experience: ICU nursing with high acuity patients (minimum 2 years recommended based on specialty complexity)
- Prior travel experience: Not explicitly required
This position is ideal for experienced ICU RNs comfortable with high acuity surgical and trauma patients, able to titrate drips, and flexible with scheduling and floating within critical care units.
