Registered Nurse – Medical-Surgical

Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Details

• Shift: 12-hour days (6:30 AM – 7:00 PM)
• Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week (except during holidays when unit is closed)
• Unit Size: 32 beds
• Patient Ratio:

  • Days: 1 nurse to 4-5 patients
  • Nights: 1 nurse to 5-7 patients
• Patient Population: Chest pain, abdominal pain, flank pain, CVA/TIA, generalized weakness, awaiting placement, geri-psych placement
• Float Requirement:

  • First to float within skillset
  • Possible float to nearby campuses (8-11 miles away) with 2-hour notice
  • Mid-shift float within same campus; cross-campus mid-shift float unlikely but possible
• Weekend/Holiday Requirement:

  • Work three weekends every six weeks
  • Work every other holiday
• On Call/Call Back: Not required
• Charting System: Recent EPIC experience required (checkoff class required)
• Scrub Color: Navy blue (no competing health system or agency logos allowed)
• Additional Notes:

  • Teaching hospital; may require precepting students and new hires
  • 3 call-ins can result in termination
  • COVID-19 vaccine not required (subject to change)

Required Qualifications

• Current active compact Registered Nurse license
• AHA BLS certification
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
• Minimum 2 years of strong Medical-Surgical nursing experience
• At least 1 prior travel assignment completed
• Trauma Level II experience
• Strong assessment and critical thinking skills
• Skills in PIV insertion and managing stable drips (heparin, lasix, protonix)

Work Environment & Team

• Excellent teamwork with strong LPN and CNA support
• CNAs rarely take patients on day shift but assist on night shift
• Resilient, hard-working, and adaptable to change candidates preferred

Additional Information

• No local candidates within a 40-mile radius will be considered
• Bi-weekly orientation starting 6/29
• GSA hours not guaranteed during orientation week
