Registered Nurse (ICU) - Travel Position
Location: Frankfort, Kentucky
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Hours per Week: 36 (three 12-hour shifts, every other weekend)
Job Summary
Seeking an experienced ICU Registered Nurse for a 10-bed telemetry unit with patient ratios of 2:1 and 3:1. The unit uses Philips Telemetry, Baxter pumps, iMobile, ventilators, and glucometers. Documentation is completed via Meditech Expanse. Floating to PCU, 3rd floor, or ED may be required.
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Kentucky (compact license accepted)
- Minimum 2 years ICU experience in a hospital setting, including experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- BLS and ACLS certifications required
- Current NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification (must be renewed annually)
- Experience with CPAP and BiPAP management
- Experience with port access and therapeutic phlebotomy
Preferred Skills and Experience
- Management of CPAP and BiPAP
- Port access and therapeutic phlebotomy
- Experience with chest tubes, NG tubes, wound vacs, drains, post-dialysis assessment, central lines, blood transfusions, and ventilators
Unit and Work Environment
- Unit staffing includes Clinical Nurse Coordinators, RNs, Patient Care Technicians, and Nurse Externs
- Procedures performed: telemetry monitoring, physician-led paracentesis, BiPAP, therapeutic phlebotomy
- Dress code: Navy or gray scrubs
- Strong interdisciplinary communication and collaboration with providers
- Supported by a director, manager, and clinical educator
- Use of GroupMe for team communication and celebrations
- Positive work culture with frequent recognition such as Daisy nominations and bi-weekly unit prizes for teamwork and patient care
- Several travelers have extended contracts due to excellent teamwork and staff support

- The hospital is a 173-bed acute care facility with Magnet® designation for nursing excellence and accredited by The Joint Commission
- Located centrally in Kentucky, approximately 50 miles from Louisville and 30 miles from Lexington
