ICU Nurse Opportunity - St Bernardine Medical Center, San Bernardino, CA
Unit Information
- Unit: SICU (Surgical Intensive Care Unit)
- Number of Beds: 47
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratios: 1:1 or 1:2
- ICU Tech/CNA Support: Yes
- Hospitalist/Intensivist Coverage: 24/7 Intensivist and fellows in unit
- Respiratory Therapist Coverage: 24/7 in ICU
- Respiratory Equipment: Ventilators, CPAP, BiPAP, Nitric Oxide
- Telemetry/Monitor Techs: No dedicated monitor techs; RNs read and post strips every 4 hours using GE bedside and central monitors
Patient Population / Common Diagnoses
- Post STEMI with PCI
- Post cardiac procedures (e.g., TAVR)
- IABP and Impella patients
- Post open heart surgery
- Post cardiac arrest
- Stroke patients treated with TNK or neuro thrombectomy
- Post neurosurgery
- Post surgery and procedures (e.g., TCAR, femoral-popliteal bypass)
- Overdose (OD)
- Gastrointestinal bleeding (GIB)
- Sepsis
- Diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA)
Required Experience & Skills
- Minimum 2 years ICU nursing experience
- Experience with vasoactive drips, lines, and ventilator management
- RNs are required to titrate drips (both titratable and set rate drips)
Certifications Required
- Active California RN License
- BLS (AHA)
- ACLS
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
Scheduling & Shifts
- Shift Length: 12-hour night shifts
- Scheduling: Self-scheduling allowed unless contract specifies fixed shifts
- Weekend Requirement: 4 weekend shifts per schedule, approximately every other week
- Holiday Requirement: None
- Call/Standby Requirement: Yes
- Floating: May float to telemetry unit
Additional Information
- Charge Nurse does not take patient assignments
- Dress Code: Navy blue scrubs provided by hospital
- Orientation: After general orientation, 1 shift ICU orientation and 1 shift telemetry orientation
- First to float on unit
