ICU Nurse Travel Opportunity - San Bernardino, California

Position Overview

• Seeking an experienced ICU nurse for a travel contract.
• Minimum 2 full years of ICU nursing experience required.
• Active BLS, ACLS, NIHSS certifications, and California nursing license required.
• CCRN certification preferred.
• Prior travel nursing experience preferred.
• Compassionate, skilled, and competent patient care is emphasized.

Unit Details

• ICU unit with 36 active beds (licensed for 44).
• Nurse-to-patient ratios: 1:2 or 1:1.
• Charge nurse role available (does not take patient assignments).
• No nurse aides; unit techs handle secretarial and equipment duties.
• EMR system: Cerner PowerChart.
• Tele/Monitor techs available; 44 hardwired GE monitors, no centralized monitoring.
• Drips administered include vasopressors, nitro, heparin, etc.
• Mechanical ventilation patients cared for.
• Hospitalist or Intensivist coverage in-house 24/7.
• Respiratory therapy and pharmacy services available 24/7.

Work Schedule & Orientation

• 12-hour shifts: Days (06:45–19:15) and Nights (18:45–07:15).
• No self-scheduling.
• Weekend requirement: Every other weekend (Friday, Saturday, Sunday) for both day and night shifts.
• Holiday work expected, coordinated with permanent staff.
• Floating required to Telemetry and Emergency Department for ICU holds.
• Orientation: 1 day ICU orientation plus 1 shift on Tele/Stepdown unit.

Patient Population & Experience

• Common patient diagnoses: cardiac conditions (PCI, open heart, CABG, stents, balloon pumps), sepsis, stroke, alcohol-related conditions, craniotomies (travelers not assigned fresh open heart or craniotomy cases).
• PACU patients transfer directly to ICU.
• General medical-surgical ICU nursing experience required.
• Minimum 3 years experience preferred unless from a large institution with 2+ years ICU experience.
