Job Details
- Department: Intensive Care Unit (ICU)
- Unit Size: 33 beds (average daily census 16)
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:2-3 for adult patients
- Common Patient Diagnoses: Trauma, cardiac conditions, overdose/substance abuse, adult sepsis, post-stent, pacemaker placement, stroke, vascular cases, renal failure, heart failure, respiratory distress
- Nursing Responsibilities:
- Titrate drips including cardiac drips, insulin, sedation
- Troubleshoot respiratory equipment from nasal cannula to ventilators
- Read, interpret, and document cardiac monitor strips (GE monitors)
- Support Staff: Nurse aides and healthcare support techs assist based on census and patient needs
- Floating: Typically to Progressive Care Unit (PCU), occasionally MedSurg with typical ratios of 1:4 or 1:5
- Orientation: 1 shift of unit/department-specific orientation required
- Return to Orientation (RTO): Required within 7 days or less for the 13-week contract; no additional RTO approved
- Scheduling:
- Shifts: 12-hour shifts (0630-1830 and 1830-0630)
- Self-scheduling allowed for core staff and travelers
- Block scheduling generally not approved except possibly weekends only
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- Holiday Requirement: Minimum of 2 holidays during contract period
- Call Back: If called back in, must arrive within 30 minutes
Required Certifications & Qualifications
- Registered Nurse (RN) license
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) certification
- NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) certification
- Valid driver’s license required at submission (used to verify candidate location within 50-mile radius)
- Must pass a pass/fail RN exam during orientation with a minimum score of 90% (open book, resources provided)
- Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care areas; refusal to comply may result in contract termination
Additional Information
- Candidates may not currently be employed full-time, part-time, or PRN with any facility associated with a specific health system within a 50-mile radius
- Weekend days are Saturday and Sunday
- Fingernail policy strictly enforced
- No duo scheduling or shared car arrangements allowed
- Radius rule: candidate must live within 50 miles of the facility
