Registered Nurse (RN) – 4N Ortho-Neuro Unit

Location: Parkersburg, West Virginia
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Unit & Patient Population

• 33-bed unit, all private rooms
• Patient ratio: 1 RN to 6 patients
• Common diagnoses: elective surgeries (hips, knees, shoulders), fractures from falls, back and neck neuro-surgeries, general Med Surg patients
• Experience with orthopedic patients and PCA pumps required
• No RN titration of drips; common drips include IV fluids and PCA pumps only (no heparin or other drips)

Required Certifications & Licenses

• Current BLS (AHA) certification
• Valid West Virginia RN license or compact RN license
• EPIC experience required

Shifts & Scheduling

• 12-hour shifts: 0700-1930 (days) and 1900-0730 (nights) with a 30-minute lunch break
• Weekend requirement: every other weekend (Fri-Sun for nights, Sat-Sun for days)
• Holiday shifts may be required based on unit staffing needs
• Travelers scheduled based on unit needs; block scheduling allowed if unit needs are met

Staffing & Support

• Charge Nurse available 24/7 (day charge may take patients if needed; night charge always has a full patient assignment)
• Patient Care Technicians (PCTs) assist with vitals, fingerstick blood sugars, ADLs, and Foley catheter removal; typically 2-4 PCTs depending on census
• Respiratory Therapy manages CPAP, BiPAP, and High Flow oxygen equipment
• Remote telemetry monitored by another floor; RNs do not read telemetry strips

Orientation & Training

• 1 day EPIC orientation
• 1 day floor orientation with a preceptor
• 3rd day working independently

Floating & Other Requirements

• Floating required to other Med Surg units; if floated to Telemetry, patient assignments will be within RN skillset
• Scrub color: Royal blue; scrub jackets allowed only if royal blue, no hoodies or sweatshirts
• Travelers may be called off for low census depending on contract terms

Additional Notes

• Must submit an unexpired copy of driver’s license with application
• Time-off requests should be noted during prescreening
• Night shift position available with 36 hours per week
