Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (RN) - Coronary Care ICU (T4)
Location: Phoenix, Arizona
Specialty: Coronary Care ICU (T4) / CTICU/CVICU
Contract Length: 13 weeks (minimum contract length)
Job Details
- Unit: CTICU/CVICU
- Unit Size: 24 beds
- Shift: 7am - 7pm (12-hour shifts for nights)
- Weekend Requirement: 3 weekend shifts per 4-week schedule (4 total weekend shifts for nights)
- Holidays: Worked as part of rotation based on unit coverage
- Patient Ratios:
- ICU: 1:1 to 1:2 (high number of 1:1 assignments)
- Telemetry units: 4:1
- Float Requirements:
- Float to other ICUs and all Telemetry units (travelers float before permanent staff)
- May be required to float to Westgate campus
- Charge Nurse: Yes, with no patient assignment
- Nurse Aides: 2 Patient Care Technicians (PCTs) on days and nights with high census
- Scrub Color: Navy
- EMR System: Cerner
- Telemonitoring: Phillips system
- In-House Coverage: Intensivist on during days, on-call at night
- IV Team: No dedicated team; strong IV skills required
- Respiratory Therapy: Available 24/7
- Pharmacy: Available 24/7, including transplant patient support
Patient Population & Common Diagnoses
- Cardiac surgery recovery
- Patients with IABP (Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump), CABG (Coronary Artery Bypass Graft) experience preferred
- ECMO (Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation)
- CRRT (Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy)
- Lung, thoracic, liver, and kidney transplant patients
- Esophagectomy, lobectomy, pneumonectomy, TAVR (Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement)
- High acuity with many bedside procedures including bronchoscopy, Swan-Ganz catheter insertion, epidurals
Required Certifications & Experience
- Certifications:
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
- CCRN preferred but not required
- Experience:
- Minimum 2 years of core ICU experience in specialty being submitted (Coronary Care ICU/CTICU/CVICU)
- Level 1 Trauma experience required
- Teaching hospital experience required
- Prior Travel Experience:
- Prior travel experience required for ED and Neuro ICU roles (not explicitly required here, but note for other units)
- Other Requirements:
- Must have natural hair color and no facial piercings
- Male candidates must be clean-shaven for fit testing
- Must pass Prophecy Dysrhythmia Exam within 24-48 hours prior to acceptance (max 2 attempts)
- Must pass Day 1 pass/fail SIMs Lab (includes Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes)
- Must be competent in sterile field maintenance and common ICU nursing skills
- Must have strong IV skills (no dedicated IV team)
- Must have own vehicle if part of a travel team
Orientation & Onboarding
- Weekly orientations on Mondays (except holiday weeks)
- Floor-specific orientation: 2 days on the unit
- Day 1 pass/fail exam and SIMs Lab required
- Onboarding paperwork must be completed by 1pm CST Wednesday before start date (no exceptions)
Additional Notes
- Candidates cannot work two contracts simultaneously within this system
- Must have been off permanent staff status with the system for 12 months to be eligible for travel assignment
- Parking assigned with shuttle service to facility; night shift parking in garage
- Nursing students may be present as this is a teaching hospital
- High acuity environment with frequent bedside procedures
