Job Opportunity: Med Surg/Tele RN - 2 West Unit

Location: Yuma, Arizona
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Position Overview

  • Assignment on Med Surg 2 West unit in a hospital in Southern Arizona
  • Requires 3+ years of nursing experience
  • Active BLS certification required
  • Epic EMR proficiency required (recent use within last 18-24 months)
  • Trauma Level I/II recent hospital experience required

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years nursing experience (higher value between 2 years RN + 1 year specialty and 3+ years total)
  • Specialty experience: Med Surg/Telemetry
  • Prior travel experience: Not explicitly required

Certifications

  • Required: BLS
  • Preferred: ACLS

Unit Details

  • Nurse to patient ratios:
    • Days: 1:5-6
    • Nights: 1:6
  • Beds: 90 (double occupancy)
  • Common patient diagnoses: Pneumonia, COPD, Radiation patients, Acute Kidney Injury, occasional laparoscopic cholecystectomy, appendectomy
  • RN responsibilities: Heparin and Lasix drips are non-titrated
  • Charge nurse: Present sometimes, may take assignments if needed
  • Support staff: Patient Care Assistants available (8-12 patients per PCA)
  • Respiratory therapy equipment: Bipap, stable tracheostomy care
  • Telemetry: Dedicated monitor tech on unit; travelers do not need to read telemetry

Scheduling & Work Requirements

  • Shift times: Approximately 6:45 AM - 7:15 PM (day and night shifts)
  • Weekend requirement: Every other weekend
  • Holiday requirement: Typically 2 out of 3 holidays
  • Call/standby: Low census on-call requirement
  • Floating: May float to Med Surg, stable low acuity ICU, RDU, and Foothills clinic RDU
  • Orientation: One unit-specific orientation, one clinical education/EPIC training, one day floor orientation
  • Dress code: Navy blue scrubs

Additional Notes

  • Start dates are fixed (1/12 starts only) and not flexible
  • 100-mile radius rule applies
  • No 48-hour shift guarantees
  • No blocked scheduling requests
  • No more than 5 days of return to office (RTO)
