MedSurg/Tele 4N Neuro RN

Contract Length

• 13 weeks

Required Qualifications

• BLS (AHA)
• NIHSS
• RN license
• Driver’s license required at submittal
• No license or background hits

Preferred

• Travel experience preferred, but strong candidates without it will be considered

Unit Details

• Med Surg Neuro - 4th Floor North
• 25 beds
• Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:5-6
• Tele techs interpret strips; RNs should have some tele awareness
• Floating may be required to other medical surgical areas or units with MedSurg patients waiting for a MedSurg bed

Schedule

• Nights
• 12-hour shifts
• 36 hours per week
• Shift times: 0630-1900 and 1830-0700
• Travelers will be scheduled
• Limited block scheduling may be approved

Weekend and Holiday Requirements

• At least every other weekend
• 2-3 holidays from Thanksgiving to New Years

Clinical Responsibilities

• MedSurg/Tele patients including strokes, stable neurological deficits, post-neurosurgery procedures, and Med Surg overflow
• Common diagnoses include joint replacements, fractures, colon resections, COPD exacerbation, prostatectomy, cellulitis, sepsis, ortho trauma, GI bleeds, pneumonia, and failure to thrive
• RN titration of heparin, lidocaine, and ketamine drips
• PCA pumps used on the unit

Orientation

• 2 days of unit/department-specific orientation

Additional Notes

• Artificial nails are prohibited in patient care areas
• Mechanical lifts are in every other room
• The unit emphasizes hourly rounding, responsiveness, teamwork, friendliness, compassion, and patient-first care
• Patients include Spanish, Karen, and Burmese speakers
