Job Opportunity: Dietitian (Health Sciences)
Location: Hilo, Hawaii
Employment Type: Contract
Contract Length: 26 weeks (approximately 6 months)
Job Description
- Provide nutrition and dietetic services across multiple hospital units including medical, surgical/pediatric, progressive care, OB, intensive care, long term care, and psychiatric units.
- Responsible for menu management and making menu changes for kitchen staff.
- Serve as a resource for food service management and kitchen staff regarding diets, nutrition support, and patient satisfaction.
- Conduct patient interviews and perform nutrition assessments.
- Make nutrition recommendations and follow up with physician consults.
- Provide nutrition education and participate in interdisciplinary team meetings and ICU rounds.
- Collaborate with food service and medical staff to optimize patient care.
- May provide services at a long term care facility approximately one day per month (travel expenses and time are the responsibility of the traveler/agency).
- Use computer charting and menu software.
Schedule
- 5 days per week, including weekends (weekends required).
- Typical shift: 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM (5-8 hour shifts, 40 hours per week).
- Likely days off: Tuesday and Wednesday.
- May occasionally work alone but not routinely.
Required Qualifications
- License: Registered Dietitian credentialed by the Commission on Dietetic Registration. Must have or obtain an active Hawaii state license by the start of the assignment.
- Experience: Minimum 1 year of clinical nutrition experience.
- Skills in nutrition assessment for patients ranging from pediatric to geriatric.
- Proficient in Medical Nutrition Therapy for acute care, long term care, and critical care.
- Ability to estimate nutrition needs (caloric, protein, fluid).
- Experience with Nutrition Support (Parenteral/Enteral Nutrition).
- Nutrition education and food service management skills.
- Ability to chart in electronic medical records and develop/update nutrition care plans.
- Knowledge of Minimum Data Sets.
Additional Information
- Must arrive the Thursday before the start date for an employee health appointment on Friday.
- Dress code is business professional; lab coats are optional.
