Job Opportunity: Certified Central Sterilization Technician

Location: Sitka, Alaska
Employment Type: Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Summary

Responsible for the proper decontamination, disinfection, sterilization, and packaging of surgical instruments and equipment primarily for the Operating Room. Supports sterilization processes for other services as workload permits. Maintains sterilization records, validates cleaning procedures, troubleshoots instrument shortages, and ensures equipment functionality. May assist with supply handling and inventory management duties as time allows.

Required Qualifications

Education & Experience

• High school diploma or GED
• Minimum 1 year experience in a healthcare environment preferred

Certifications & Licenses

• Certification in Sterile Processing and/or Technology required through either:

  • Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD) or
  • Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HPSA)
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification

Skills & Knowledge

• Knowledge of infection control preferred
• Knowledge of surgical instrumentation care and cleaning strongly preferred
• Knowledge of sterile techniques preferred
• Knowledge of inventory management preferred
• Strong oral and written communication skills
• Detail-oriented and self-motivated
• Good hand-eye coordination and organizational skills
• Computer skills

Additional Information

• Flu vaccine is mandatory
• Start date will be no less than 5 weeks after fingerprint processing
• Must live at least 50 miles away from the facility to apply
• No housing or flights provided
