Pharmacist - Contract Position

Location: Grand Island, Nebraska
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Schedule:

  • 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM (sole pharmacist until 7:30 AM)
  • 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM
  • 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM
  • 1:00 PM to 9:00 PM (sole pharmacist after 4:30 PM until overnight coverage)
    Hours per Week: 40 hours

Job Responsibilities

  • Verify medication orders for all patients
  • Dispense medications to inpatients and outpatients
  • Conduct patient workups and rounding
  • Perform medication reconciliation and counseling
  • Prepare and check compounded IVs
  • Monitor drug therapy for efficacy and safety
  • Identify drug interactions, adverse reactions, contraindications, allergies, sensitivities, and cost issues
  • Ensure rational drug therapy through appropriate medication combinations
  • Communicate with providers for medication clarifications
  • Perform pharmacokinetic dosage calculations and evaluations as needed
  • Maintain clinical competency including age-specific skills and annual verifications
  • Utilize hospital pharmacy drug distribution systems (unit dose, sterile product preparation, floor stock)
  • Use relevant computer hardware and software applications for pharmacy functions

Required Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited college of pharmacy
  • Pharmacist licensure in the State of Nebraska (required)
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in an institutional pharmacy environment (preferred)
  • Advanced education or training (preferred)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) or Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification (preferred)
  • Experience with EPIC electronic medical records system
  • Experience with Medi-dose packaging system
  • Experience with BD Pyxis medication dispensing system

Skills and Abilities

  • Strong assessment skills for safety, efficacy, and appropriateness of pharmaceuticals
  • Proficient in mathematical computations related to pharmaceutical preparation and monitoring
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to conduct crucial conversations with positive outcomes
  • Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information
  • Ability to prioritize workload and work independently
  • Reliable attendance and punctuality

Orientation and Training

  • On-the-job training with pharmacist staff
  • New staff receive a training packet and work closely with a pharmacist to complete orientation

Dress Code

  • Business casual or navy blue scrubs

Additional Considerations

  • Candidate should ideally live within 50 miles of the facility
  • Candidate may be required to work as the sole pharmacist during certain shifts
