Registered Nurse (RN) - Travel Position

Location: Milan, New Mexico

Job Summary

The Registered Nurse (RN) provides comprehensive nursing care including executing provider orders, administering medications, assisting in patient examinations and treatments, and applying nursing and supervisory techniques in the care and treatment of patients. Responsibilities include attending sick calls, operating medication distribution, assessing new and existing patients, performing emergency procedures, and coordinating professional medical services.


Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor inpatient hospitalizations and coordinate early releases when appropriate.
  • Supervise and guide licensed vocational/practical nursing staff and non-licensed medical staff.
  • Maintain good working relationships with facility and nursing staff, contract providers, and outside agencies.
  • Use sound independent judgment while adhering to corporate, facility, and correctional policies.
  • Evaluate medical service provision to prevent inappropriate use or duplication.
  • Maintain confidentiality and security of all medical records.
  • Assist with medical file reviews to ensure documentation of services.
  • Monitor potential catastrophic illnesses closely.
  • Audit pharmacy use for formulary adherence and comply with pharmacy laws, especially controlled substances.
  • Observe and document patient behavior.
  • Inspect medical units for contraband and manage supplies securely.
  • Provide health counseling and education individually or in groups.
  • Prepare and maintain various medical and operational records and reports.
  • Interpret medical, technical, legal, and regulatory documents.
  • Respond to lawsuits and attend court hearings as necessary.
  • Support accreditation processes by providing efficient and appropriate medical services.
  • Prepare safety and accident reports and respond to serious incidents and emergencies.

Contract Length

  • 13 weeks

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in New Mexico.
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
  • Minimum of 1 year of correctional nursing experience, with correctional experience within the last year.
