Job Summary

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) is responsible for performing basic nursing duties including executing physician orders, operating pill call and sick call, assisting physicians during examinations and treatments, and performing technical/clinical procedures within the scope of the LPN license. The role involves applying nursing skills in the care and treatment of patients, attending sick calls, dispensing medication, maintaining medical supplies, performing emergency procedures, and documenting all activities according to policy.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist in managing the medical department professionally.
• Attend sick calls with physicians and prepare patients for examination.
• Dispense medication and maintain accurate documentation.
• Control and inventory medical supplies and equipment.
• Perform emergency procedures as needed.
• Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of equipment and work areas.
• Observe and record patient behavior.
• Maintain security and confidentiality of medical records.
• Inspect medical units for contraband and ensure safe storage or disposal of supplies.
• Prepare and maintain various medical and operational records and reports.
• Interpret medical and technical procedures and legal documents.
• Communicate effectively with administration, staff, patients, and visitors.
• Assist in safety evaluations and accident reporting.
• Escort or coordinate patient movement for medical treatment.
• Participate in investigations and inquiries as directed.
• Work rotating shifts and ensure security in confined areas.
• Handle potentially hostile environments with tact and professionalism.

Required Qualifications

• Valid LPN / LVN license in Illinois.
• Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) with at least 1 year of experience.
• Experience as an LPN / LVN within the last year.

Experience

• No specific years of experience required or preferred.
• No prior travel experience explicitly required.
