Sterile Processing Technician

Location: Rochester, Minnesota
Employment Type: Travel Clinical Allied
Contract Length: 17 weeks

Job Summary

The Sterile Processing Technician supports the operating room team by preparing, cleaning, packaging, and processing surgical instruments and equipment. Responsibilities include managing sterilization processes, maintaining inventory, and operating sterilization equipment such as autoclaves and ultrasonic cleaners.

Work Schedule

• 40 hours per week
• Monday to Friday, no weekends, no on-call
• Day shift: 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM (2 positions)
• Evening shift: 3:00 PM – 11:30 PM (4 positions)

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Minimum of 1 year of experience as a Sterile Processing Technician
• Sterile Processing Technician experience within the last year
• Certification as a Central Service Technician (CBSPD or CRCST)
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
• Must be at least 18 years old prior to start date

Preferred Qualifications

• Two years of experience in handling and sterilization of surgical/medical/dental instrumentation within the past four years, OR
• Vocational certificate as Central Service Technician or Patient Care Assistant within the last two years, OR
• At least two years of experience as a Central Service Technician or Patient Care Assistant in an acute care setting within the last five years
• Knowledge of medical terminology

Skills and Abilities

• Ability to adapt to unpredictable perioperative situations
• Strong, empathetic, and clear communication skills with patients and team members
• Frequent lifting/carrying of 25 pounds or more, including occasional work above shoulder level
• Proficient in managing multiple computer applications related to sterilization tracking and processes
• Ability to operate and troubleshoot sterilization power equipment
