Job Opportunity: IMC - RN PACU (Post-Anesthesia Care Unit)

Location: Brooklyn, New York


Job Summary

The Registered Professional Nurse (RN) in the PACU is responsible for providing nursing care to patients in the immediate post-anesthesia period. This includes assessing patients, developing and implementing individualized care plans, and collaborating with healthcare team members to ensure optimal patient outcomes. Care is provided to patients ranging from pediatric through geriatric.


Key Responsibilities

  • Provide nursing care to immediate post-anesthesia and post-procedure patients.
  • Perform initial and ongoing physical assessments upon admission to PACU.
  • Assess patient’s physical, social, behavioral, and mental status through observation, interview, and medical record review.
  • Develop individualized plans of care to assist patients in returning to a safe physiological state after anesthesia.
  • Monitor surgical sites, drains, dressings, tubes, catheters, and intravenous lines.
  • Maintain respiratory and circulatory function; intervene in emergencies using crisis intervention.
  • Utilize critical thinking for patient assessment and interventions.
  • Follow infection control procedures and protocols.
  • Provide psychosocial support and health teaching to patients and families.
  • Act as a patient advocate and communicate any unusual occurrences or incidents.
  • Evaluate patient responses to pain treatment and adjust care accordingly.
  • Document all assessments, interventions, and patient education.

Required Qualifications

  • Experience: Minimum 2 years of Critical Care nursing experience.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Nursing.
  • Licensure & Certifications:
    • Current New York State RN License
    • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS)
    • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
    • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
