Job Overview

Seeking a Registered Nurse with recent ICU experience in an acute care facility to provide critical care nursing. The role involves floating between ICU, Emergency Department (ED), Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU), and Intermediate Care (IMC) units to care for critically ill patients.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform patient assessments on admission and reassess regularly, at least every shift, considering physical, psychosocial, cultural, and spiritual needs.
• Develop, review, and update individualized plans of care based on comprehensive data and reassessments.
• Administer medications (oral, topical, parenteral) following the 7 rights and monitor effectiveness and side effects.
• Perform treatments and procedures adhering to sterile technique, hospital policies, standard precautions, and patient privacy.
• Document patient care, pain management, discharge planning, education, and progress accurately and legibly.
• Educate patients and families based on assessed needs.
• Interpret diagnostic data and promptly communicate changes in patient condition to physicians and healthcare team members using SBAR communication.
• Participate in multidisciplinary care planning and follow hospital policies including infection control, patient safety goals, and use of two patient identifiers.
• Manage patients in restraints per policy and understand disaster plans and rapid response activation.
• Follow protocols for blood transfusions, core measures, vaccine control, and hand hygiene.

Critical Care Specific Tasks

• Document initial assessments, care plans, progress notes, ICU flow sheets, medication records, and critical values.
• Use Pyxis system appropriately for narcotics and follow high-risk medication administration policies.
• Utilize pressure monitoring, bedside cardiac monitors, recognize cardiac dysrhythmias, and operate specialty beds.
• Manage pain and sedation protocols and follow early mobility protocols.
• Adhere to protocols for sepsis, ventilator-associated pneumonia, pressure ulcers, and central line care.
• Collect nurse-obtained specimens for Type and Cross/Screen.
• Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care for critically ill patients accurately.
• Access unit-specific policies and resources as needed.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Current California RN License
• ACLS, BLS, and CA RN License required
• Recent ICU RN experience in an acute care setting
• Ability to float between ICU, ED, PACU, and IMC units
• Night shift availability (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
• Must be able to start by December 22, 2025

Contract Length

• 8 weeks
