Registered Nurse – ICU

Location: Wausau, Wisconsin

Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Details

• Unit: Medical-Surgical ICU (16 beds), Level 2 trauma center
• Patient Ratio: 2:1 primary patient ratio
• Shift: 12-hour day shifts (7:00 AM – 7:30 PM)
• Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week
• Weekend/Holiday: Every other weekend and holiday rotation
• Float: Will float between Medical-Surgical ICU and Neuro ICU; possible float to other critical care and inpatient units as needed
• On Call: Picking up call permitted but not required; 1-hour response time if called
• Low Census: Eligible for up to 36 hours of low census unbillable hours, can be scheduled in hour increments

Patient Population & Clinical Focus

• Conditions: Stroke care, cerebral monitoring and drains, ventilators, drips, chest tubes, spinal drains, JP drains, some CRRT patients
• Specialty Focus: Strong neuro experience required
• Common Cases: Medical and surgical neuro, sepsis, respiratory failure, alcohol detox, trauma from logging, motorcycle, and snowmobile accidents

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Wisconsin
• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
• Minimum 2 years of ICU (Intensive Care Unit) experience, including experience within the last year
• Medical-Surgical nursing experience
• BLS certification
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
• ACLS certification

Additional Information

• Radius Rule: Must reside outside a 50-mile radius of the facility
• Team Support: Clinical lead present on day shift; shift leader on nights; CNAs and LPNs assist RNs
• Work Environment: Resilient, independent, and adaptable candidates preferred
• Dress Code: Scrub colors are flexible (any color)
• Vaccination Policy: During flu season, travelers declining flu and COVID vaccines must wear masks at all times per facility policy; non-compliance may result in corrective action
