Registered Nurse – Cardiovascular Operating Room

Location: Wausau, Wisconsin
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Monday to Friday, various day shifts (7:00 AM – 3:30 PM)
Hours: 40 hours guaranteed per week

Job Description

• Provide anesthesia nursing support primarily focused on the cardiothoracic program.
• Assist anesthesia providers during heart surgeries, traumas, elective, and general surgeries.
• Perform circulating duties in a Cardiovascular Operating Room with 21 ORs, managing 4-5 rooms per day.
• Assist with conscious sedation, intubations, fiber optic scopes during intubation, sterile techniques for central lines, arterial lines, lumbar drains, Swan Ganz catheters, and starting IVs.
• Operate equipment including Cell Saver, Belmont, and Level I medication pumps.
• Draw labs and set up medication pumps as needed.
• Respond to on-call requirements: 1 night of call per week, 1 weekend per month, and 1 backup call per week with a 30-minute response time; a vehicle is required.
• Participate in weekend and holiday rotations every 3rd to 4th weekend.
• Complete a 2-week orientation including training for additional anesthesia skills.
• Expected to be flexible, resilient, socially engaged, and able to manage change well. Critical thinking and strong knowledge of all OR cases are essential.
• Perform downtime tasks as needed.

Required Qualifications

• Current Wisconsin RN license or compact RN license.
• AHA or ARC BLS and ACLS certifications.
• Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Nursing.
• Minimum 3 years of Operating Room experience with anesthesia experience required.
• Prior travel experience required.
• Experience with Epic electronic charting system.

Additional Information

• Must live outside a 50-mile radius from the facility.
• Vehicle required due to 30-minute on-call response time.
• Scrub colors are provided.
• During flu season, compliance with flu and COVID vaccination policies is mandatory; unvaccinated travelers must wear masks at all times.
• Guaranteed hours per week except during holidays when the unit is closed.
