Job Opportunity: Utilization Review - Registered Nurse
Location: Orange, California
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- In-person position, Monday through Friday, no weekends or holidays
- Pre-approved time off allowed, not to exceed 5 days
- Must be highly proficient in EPIC and InterQual systems for clinical review and medical necessity determination
Required Experience
- Specialty: Registered Nurse

Certifications & Competencies
- Current RN license for California
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) as required by unit
- BLS (Basic Life Support) required
- PALS, NRP, EFM certifications as applicable depending on unit assignment
- NIH Stroke Certification required for all RNs except MedSurg, Tele, MS/Tele, NICU, Behavioral Health, or Case Managers
- CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) Blue Card required for ER and Behavioral Health RNs
- Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam required
- Unit-specific competency exams including Dysrhythmia/EKG exam for Tele and MS/Tele RNs
- Infection Control/Bloodborne Pathogens exam with minimum 80% passing score
- CEUs: Continuing Education Units within last 24 months required (excluding BLS)
Health & Background Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year, updated annually
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 1 year, updated annually (no instant tests)
- Negative TB test (PPD, TSpot, or QGold) within 1 year or negative chest x-ray if previously positive
- Immunizations or titers required for:
- Rubeola (Measles)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Varicella
- Hepatitis B series or declination (titer not accepted)
- Hepatitis C titer preferred; declination accepted with reason
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap or Pertussis titer if unable to obtain vaccine
- Flu vaccine required by December 5th annually or signed declination
- COVID-19 vaccine documentation for current season or signed declination; masking required if not vaccinated
- Mask fit testing (N95) within 1 year, updated annually; PAPR documentation accepted if fit test failed
Documentation & Compliance
- 2 professional references within 1 year from leadership roles (Charge Nurse, Nurse Manager, etc.)
- Verification of employment for past 3 years
- Background check within 1 year including criminal history and education verification
- Signed HIPAA acknowledgment
- Completion of facility-specific orientation and competency modules onsite
- Signed acknowledgment of unit-specific job description prior to start
- Various facility-specific packets and policy acknowledgments required (e.g., Sexual Violence and Sexual Harassment Policy, Workplace Violence Prevention)
Work Schedule & Uniform
- Monday through Friday, no weekends or holidays
- Scrub color: Navy Blue for RNs
- Scrubs must be purchased by the candidate; OR unit provides scrubs
Additional Notes
- All training modules and orientation are completed onsite except for some pre-orientation modules for registry/per diem staff
- Candidates must be prepared for medication/calculation exams and arrhythmia recognition assessments onsite
- Facility requires strict adherence to infection control and safety policies
This position is ideal for experienced Registered Nurses comfortable with utilization review processes and proficient in EPIC and InterQual systems, seeking a structured weekday schedule without weekend or holiday shifts.
