Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position

Location: New Orleans, Louisiana
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Requirements

  • No first-time travelers
  • EPIC experience required
  • BLS certification required
  • Focus on timely patient discharge to assist with throughput
  • Minimize any Return to Office (RTO) requests from February 13 to February 22 due to Mardi Gras staffing needs

Required Certifications & Competencies

  • Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Advanced certifications may be required depending on unit (e.g., ACLS, PALS, NRP, TNCC, EFM) – verify based on unit assignment
  • State nursing license verification required within 30 days of start
  • NURSYS verification required within 30 days of start
  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (annual, must score 80% or higher)
  • Competency Exam (annual, must score 80% or higher)
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam (annual, must score 80% or higher) for applicable units
  • Core Competency Parts I, II, and III (annual)

Background & Compliance

  • Background check within 6 months covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years, including Social Security Trace, Counties, Nationwide, Sex Offender, Federal Extended, FACIS Level 3
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start
  • Drug screening within 30 days of start (10-panel or expanded panel depending on hire date)
  • Employment application with 7 years of work history, no gaps over 30 days

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 12 months (not required by facility but required for placement)
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine within 10 years (declinations accepted with proper documentation)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 3 months of start (two-step skin test or equivalent)
  • Annual TB questionnaire required
  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella): 2 vaccines or positive titer required; boosters required if titer is low
  • Hepatitis B series, titer, or declination (declinations must be signed within 12 months of start)
  • Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive titer required; boosters required if titer is low
  • Seasonal flu vaccination required annually (Oct 1 – Mar 31), with exemptions and declinations accepted under specific conditions
  • Mask required at all times for unvaccinated candidates

Additional Notes

  • Must comply with facility-specific employee appearance policy
  • Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certification may be required depending on unit; CPI Blue Card accepted, can be completed onsite within 30 days of start if not already certified
  • Some units may require specialty certifications such as Chemotherapy, NIH Stroke Certification, or CCRT (Cardiovascular Critical Care RN)
  • Documentation and certifications must be current and compliant with facility and system standards

This position is ideal for experienced registered nurses with EPIC experience who can commit to a 13-week travel contract in a fast-paced hospital environment during a high-demand period.
