Registered Nurse (Tele RN Nights) - Saint Peters, Missouri

Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Overview

  • Work night shifts in Telemetry unit.
  • Required to float between two hospital locations as needed.
  • Average daily census: 16 patients.
  • Every third weekend required.
  • Patient ratio: 1 nurse to 4-6 patients.
  • EPIC charting experience required.
  • Must have NIH Stroke Certification, ACLS, and BCLS.
  • Telemetry experience required.
  • Minimum 2 years nursing experience.
  • Unit accepts first-time travelers.
  • Patient population: Adults & Geriatrics.
  • Common patient cases include:
    • Total joint replacement
    • Neuro spine
    • General surgery
    • Wounds care
    • Diabetic care
    • Medical COVID cases
    • Oral surgery (starting mid-July)

Required Certifications & Licenses

  • Registered Nurse license (Primary source verification required; Missouri licenses verified via NURSYS)
  • ACLS (American Heart Association only)
  • BLS (American Heart Association only)
  • NIH Stroke Certification (AHA, Apex, or NIHSS accepted; annual update required unless 2-year expiration listed)
  • Telemetry experience certification as applicable
  • Other certifications may be required based on unit (e.g., PALS, NRP, TNCC, EFM, MAB/CPI if applicable)
  • IV Certification required for LPNs/LVNs in Missouri (not applicable for RNs)
  • CPI or Management of Assaultive Behavior certification if applicable

Compliance & Background Requirements

  • Government-issued ID required (Driver’s license for Home Health roles)
  • Criminal background check within 6 months (7-year search including statewide, nationwide, sex offender, and international if applicable)
  • Quarterly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks
  • Education verification of highest nursing degree required before start
  • State-specific background checks (Missouri EDL, Highway Patrol, Family Care Safety Registry as applicable)
  • Fingerprinting required for assignments in Illinois long-term care or rehab units (not required for Missouri)
  • Drug testing within 1 year of start, must include standard panels (amphetamines, benzodiazepines, cocaine, opiates, etc.)
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start (not required for APNs)
  • Fit mask test (annual renewal required)
  • Immunizations and health documents:
    • Tdap vaccine or declination (every 10 years)
    • Negative TB test or chest x-ray (2 negative PPDs or T-Spot/Q-Gold within 1 year)
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella immunity or vaccination/declination as per unit requirements
    • Hepatitis B declination form required (vaccination not mandatory)
    • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption required during flu season (Sept-April)
  • HIPAA Acknowledgement, Latex Allergy Questionnaire, Confidentiality Form, Hand Hygiene, Fingernail, and Dress Code policies must be reviewed and signed prior to start.
  • Facility-specific orientation modules (approx. 16 hours) must be completed prior to start unless completed within the last year at a BJC facility.
  • Float attestation required acknowledging willingness to float between facilities.

Competency & Skills

  • Unit-specific competency exams required annually.
  • Medication test/pharmacology competency exam required.
  • Skills checklist required within 1 year of start (oncology skills checklist required for Med Surg-Oncology unit).
  • References: Two professional references required (supervisors preferred).

  • Candidates must be prepared for some orientation outside normal shift hours.

  • The unit accepts first-time travelers.
  • Floating between facilities is mandatory.

This position is ideal for experienced Telemetry RNs with strong EPIC charting skills and certifications in ACLS, BLS, and NIH Stroke. The role requires flexibility to float between facilities and work every third weekend.
