Job Overview

  • Unit Description:
    • 14 bed overflow med/surg telemetry unit for ED boarder patients
    • Flex space inside GI Endoscopy area; patient census may vary
  • Shift Details:
    • Weekend coverage every other weekend (EOW)
    • Float required based on census, may float to med/surg patients
    • Call required depending on staffing needs
  • Block Scheduling: Attempted but not guaranteed
  • Locals Accepted: No (within 75 miles)
  • Pending License: Not accepted
  • Return to Origin (RTO) Restrictions: Minimal

Required Experience & Skills

  • Years of Experience Required: Minimum 1 year in specialty
  • Prior Travel Experience: Not explicitly required
  • Previous Charge Experience: Preferred
  • Unit Accepts 1st Time Travelers: Yes
  • EPIC Experience: Required

Certifications Required

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA Provider/Instructor/RQI accepted
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA Provider/Instructor/RQI accepted, as required by unit
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - AHA Provider/Instructor/RQI accepted, as required by unit
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) - as required by unit
  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) - as required by unit
  • EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring) - as required by unit
  • NIH Stroke Certification - required for all RNs except birthing units & OR, updated annually
  • State License Verification and NURSYS Verification required within 30 days of start
  • Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement required

  • Communication of patient status changes to RN/MD using SBAR for ED patients and verbal report for others
  • Isolation precautions
  • Vital sign monitoring

Dress Code

  • Scrubs: Navy blue or white

Health & Compliance Requirements

Candidates must complete health-related requirements and lab work within 5 days of signing the contract, including but not limited to:

  • Physical exam (within 1 year, updated annually)
  • Fit mask testing (annual)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray (within 1 year)
  • TB questionnaire (in lieu of annual TB test renewal)
  • Immunizations or proof of immunity for:
    • Rubeola (Measles)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Hepatitis B
    • Varicella
  • Drug screening (within 30 days of start)
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or signed declination (during flu season)
  • Eye exam (Snellen, within 1 year)
  • COVID vaccination copy preferred but not required

Background & Verification Requirements

  • Government issued photo ID required
  • 7-year criminal background check (including felony checks) within 3 months of start
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 3 months of start and monthly thereafter
  • Education verification from primary source required (no hard copies)
  • Foreign equivalency education evaluation if applicable
  • Transcript/diploma if no education verification on file
  • Work history verification (at least 2 past employments)
  • References (2 within 3 years) required for Aya candidates
  • Facility-specific documents including photo for badge and pre-employment compliance attestations

State-Specific Requirements (New York)

  • NYS Nurse Aide Registry (if applicable) within 3 months of start
  • NYS Criminal Background Check Fingerprint Results (for certain units)
  • Disciplinary Action Search Results (for certain units)
  • Sex Offender Registry Search within 30 days of start
  • NY Medicaid Exclusion List check within 3 months of start and monthly thereafter

This position is suitable for LVNs/LPNs with at least 1 year of experience, EPIC proficiency, and flexibility to float and cover weekends every other week. Prior travel experience is not required, and first-time travelers are welcome. Compliance with extensive health, background, and certification requirements is mandatory.
