Job Summary

Seeking a Registered Nurse with orthopedic experience for a fast-paced MS/Tele unit. The unit cares for orthopedic, neuro spine, med-surg, and post-surgical patients. Nurses must be able to manage pain effectively and handle a variety of patient needs.

Requirements

Experience

• Minimum 2 years of nursing experience
• Must have orthopedic experience
• Prior travel experience not required; first-time travelers accepted if they have EPIC experience

Skills & Certifications

• Required: IV Start, Telemetry
• Certifications: BCLS, NIH Stroke Certification
• Preferred: ACLS, Charge Nurse Experience, Level I Trauma Experience

Other Requirements

• Must pass EKG competency testing prior to start
• Float requirement: Nurses may be required to float to other med-surg units based on census
• Weekend requirement: Every other weekend required; missed weekends must be made up
• No Return to Office (RTO) after booking allowed onsite; limited RTO allowed (max 7 days) with strict policies
• Block scheduling options available (e.g., Fri/Sat/Sun or Sat/Sun/Mon)
• 12-hour day shifts (36 or 48 hours offered)
• Patient ratio: Typically 5-6:1, can flex to 7:1 in extreme cases

Patient Population

• Average daily census: 37 patients
• Beds: 39
• Patient types: Orthopedic, neuro spine, med-surg, post-surgical
• COVID-19 patients are no longer cohorted and are cared for on all units unless in ICU

Orientation & Testing

• Must pass EKG competency exam within 72 hours of start (minimum 82% score required)
• Dysrhythmia/EKG remediation process in place if initial attempts fail
• Must pass EKG testing prior to start

Scheduling & Work Environment

• Fast-paced unit requiring strong pain management skills
• Floating to other med-surg units required
• Weekend work every other weekend mandatory
• No holiday RTO allowed

Required Documentation & Compliance

• Background checks within 6 months required
• Drug screening within 6 months required
• Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year required
• Immunizations: Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella required or documented immunity
• Flu vaccination or approved exemption required during flu season
• Physical exam and references required per travel agency standards
• Photo ID and badge photo required prior to start
• Completion of facility-specific orientation and compliance training required
• Must complete medication safety training and other facility-specific education modules

Additional Notes

• Prior EPIC experience preferred but not mandatory for first-time travelers
• Must be willing to complete all required competencies and certifications before and during assignment
• Strict policies on attendance and time off; failure to comply may result in contract cancellation
