Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position
Location: Bloomington, Indiana

Job Description
- Float position on an Acuity adaptable unit with patient care levels ranging from Medical-Surgical (MS) to Progressive Care Unit (PCU)/Stepdown/ICU.
- Patient ratios vary from 1:4 to 1:6 depending on acuity and patient type.
- Unit is a boarding unit where patients come from the Emergency Department and are boarded until discharge or transfer to inpatient units. Patients are generally stable; unstable patients are moved out.
- RN may be floated to an inpatient PCU unit; PCU experience is required.
- Unit size fluctuates between 4 beds and up to 8-10 beds depending on staffing and acuity.
- Team nursing model is used, involving RN/LPN collaboration and delegation. RN must be comfortable working in this model.
- Shift options: 3x12-hour shifts or 4x12-hour shifts.
- Weekend requirement: Every other weekend.
- Must work 2 out of 3 major holidays.
- Cerner experience required.
- Certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Certification.
- On-call: Not required.
- Locals not accepted.
- First-time travelers not accepted.
- Guaranteed hours vary by shift pattern (36-48 hours/week).
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required.
- PCU experience required.
- Prior travel experience: Not explicitly required. First-time travelers are not accepted.
Certifications Required
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA only, RQI acceptable
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA only, RQI acceptable
- NIH Stroke Certification
- Additional certifications may be required depending on unit assignment (e.g., PALS, NRP, CHEMO, TNCC, EFM) but BLS, ACLS, and NIH are mandatory for this role.
Technology/Systems
- Cerner experience required.
Staffing and Work Environment
- Team nursing with RN/LPN collaboration and delegation.
- Float position with potential assignment to PCU inpatient unit.
- Boarding unit with fluctuating patient census and acuity.
Scheduling
- 3x12-hour or 4x12-hour shifts.
- Every other weekend required.
- Must work 2 out of 3 major holidays.
Compliance and Documentation Requirements
- Valid Driver’s License or Passport (clear copy).
- Background checks including criminal, SSN trace, sex offender registry, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG within required timeframes.
- Education verification and transcript/diploma required.
- State RN license verification within 30 days of start.
- Physical exam within 12 months of start.
- Fit mask test within 12 months of start with approved respirators.
- Immunizations and titers required:
- TB test (PPD, QuantiFERON-TB Gold, or T-SPOT) within 1 year
- Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required; no declinations accepted
- Varicella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required; no declinations accepted
- Hepatitis B series, titer, or signed declination required
- Seasonal Flu vaccination/documentation required (no declinations accepted)
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 12 months.
- Competency exams including medication/pharmacology test and unit competency exam required.
- References: Minimum 2 references from recent employment verified within 2 years; must be from charge nurse, manager, supervisor, or above.
- Skills checklist within 12 months and annually.
- Completion of facility-specific compliance and orientation documents prior to start.
Additional Notes
- This is a travel/contract position; locals are not accepted.
- First-time travelers are not accepted.
- Must be comfortable with team nursing and delegation to LPNs.
- Must be able to float to PCU inpatient unit if needed.
- Must work required holidays and every other weekend.
This position is ideal for an experienced RN with PCU background who is comfortable working in a dynamic, acuity-adaptable, team nursing environment and has prior travel contract experience.
