Job Description

  • Assess, plan, organize, and participate in rehabilitative programs to improve patient mobility, relieve pain, increase strength, and correct disabling conditions caused by disease or injury.
  • Build confidence and cooperation from patients, families/support groups, and healthcare providers through competent assessment, attentive monitoring, and effective communication.
  • Adhere to all local, state, and federal regulations, codes, policies, and procedures to ensure patient privacy and safety.
  • Provide clinical supervision of assistants and aides.
  • Serve as a clinical instructor for assigned students.

Required Certifications

  • State License (Primary source online verification required within 30 days of start)
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) – AHA or ARC only
  • ACLS, PALS, NRP, CCRN, TNCC, EFM, CPI, NIH Stroke Certification, and other certifications may be required depending on position—verify with recruiter or manager.
  • Tech Certification (National) – Required within 30 days of start as applicable.
  • Venipuncture/IV Certification may be required for some roles.

Background Check Requirements

  • 7-year background check required within 6 months of start, including:
    • Social Security Trace with all aliases
    • County searches for last 7 years of residence/work/school
    • Nationwide Sex Offender Search (within 90 days of start)
    • Education verification (highest level achieved, not required if high school)
    • FACIS Level 3 screening within 2 weeks of start and monthly thereafter (or equivalent checks if FACIS III cannot be run)
    • Motor Vehicle Report (required for all candidates at this facility)
    • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks updated annually
  • Pending background check attestations generally not accepted without facility approval.

Health and Immunization Requirements

  • Physical Exam: Within 1 year of start; must clear candidate for work.
  • Fit Mask Test: Required within 1 year of start; annual renewal required. Exemptions and accommodations considered case-by-case.
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap: Adult TDAP within 10 years required.
  • TB Screening: Negative TB test (QGold, TSPOT, or PPD) within 90 days of start; annual renewal required. Positive responders require negative chest x-ray within 1 year.
  • Immunizations:
    • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella: Proof of immunity or vaccination required.
    • Hepatitis B: Series or signed declination required.
    • Varicella: Proof of immunity or vaccination required.
  • Drug Testing: Negative 9-panel drug screen within 6 months of start (excluding marijuana/cannabinoids per CA law).
  • Flu Vaccination: Required during flu season (Nov 1 - Apr 30); declination accepted with mask requirement in patient care areas.
  • Color Blind Exam: In-person exam required if applicable.
  • Respiratory Safety Clearance: Required prior to start and annually (exemptions apply).

Competency Exams

  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam as applicable by profession.
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam may be required for some units.
  • Other competency exams may be required depending on role and unit.

Facility-Specific Documents and Training

  • Candidates must review and sign facility-required documents prior to start, including:
    • Job Description
    • Standards of Business Conduct
    • Conditional Offer of Employment Attestation
    • General Regulatory Orientation for Contracted Workers
    • Vendor Training (2024 and 2025 versions depending on contract date)
    • Code of Conduct (2024 and 2025 versions depending on contract date)
    • Overpayment Refund Policy (2024 and 2025 versions depending on contract date)
    • Request for Religious Accommodation Form (if applicable)
    • TB Questionnaire (within 90 days of start, renewed annually)
    • Epic Questionnaire (RN only, required for new candidates starting 11/3/2025 onward)
  • Personal or Auto Insurance required for all candidates working at this facility (must be effective for duration of assignment).

Employment History and References

  • Full 7 years of work history required on application with no gaps; must include city and state of employment.
  • Employment verification required for up to 7 years; gaps over 30 days must be explained.
  • Two professional references required for clinical, allied, and per diem acute care candidates; one reference for per diem non-acute care.

  • All certifications and background checks must be current and verifiable.
  • Religious and medical exemptions for immunizations and fit testing may be considered but require facility-specific documentation and approval.
