ICU Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position

Location: Columbus, Georgia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each, 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
Contract Length: 12 weeks


Patient Population

  • Adults to Geriatrics

Clinical Conditions and Skills

  • Care for patients with:
    • Hypertensive emergency
    • Cardiogenic shock/Heart failure
    • Complex arrhythmias
    • Unstable angina
    • Post-CRE status
    • GI bleed, esophageal perforation
    • Drug overdose
    • Mechanical ventilator support (invasive/non-invasive)
    • Pulmonary emboli with hemodynamic instability
    • Respiratory failure/deterioration
    • Uncontrolled seizures
    • Diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA)
    • Electrolyte imbalances (hypo/hypernatremia)
    • Post-operative patients requiring hemodynamic monitoring/ventilator support or extensive nursing care
    • Septic shock with hemodynamic instability
    • Delirium tremens with complications

Nurse-to-Patient Ratio

  • 1:2 ratio
  • 5 rooms with an average daily census of 4 patients

Unit Systems

  • Epic electronic health record
  • Pyxis medication dispensing system
  • SBAR communication framework

Schedule and Work Requirements

  • Return to Orientation (RTO) maximum: 7 days
  • Weekend shifts: Every other weekend (6 weekend shifts in a 6-week period)
  • Floating: Yes, within the facility and to a sister campus
  • Call: None
  • Holiday work:
    • If 1 major holiday falls during assignment, expected to work it
    • If 2 major holidays fall, expected to work both
    • If 3 major holidays fall, expected to work 2 of them
  • Major holidays include New Year’s Eve/Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving/Black Friday, Christmas Eve/Day

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Georgia
  • Minimum 2 years of ICU (Intensive Care Unit) nursing experience, including experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Certifications:
    • BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
    • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
  • Background checks and verifications:
    • Comprehensive background check completed within 30 days prior to start
    • Education verification of nursing degree (can be pending at start with proof of processing)
    • State license verification within 30 days prior to start
    • NURSYS verification within 30 days prior to start
  • Health requirements:
    • Physical exam within 12 months prior to start
    • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 12 months (with additional requirements if prior positive)
    • TB questionnaire updated annually
    • Immunizations or titers for Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR), Varicella, Hepatitis B (or signed declination)
    • Flu vaccination or signed declination (required during flu season)
    • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 60 days prior to start
  • References: Two clinical references required
  • Skills checklist within 12 months, updated annually
  • Verification of most recent work history (can be pending at start with proof of processing)

Orientation and Compliance

  • Full compliance with all documentation and credentialing required to start on time
  • Non-compliance may delay start by 2 weeks due to bi-weekly orientation scheduling
  • Number of non-billable orientation hours depends on contract length

  • Locals accepted at the same rate
  • Floating includes coverage at sister campus within the same healthcare system

This position is ideal for experienced ICU RNs comfortable with complex critical care patients, working night shifts, and able to meet strict compliance and credentialing requirements.
