Registered Nurse – CVICU (Travel/Contract)

Location: Madison, Wisconsin
Contract Length: 26 weeks


Job Details

  • Shifts: Day and Night, 12-hour shifts
    • Day: 07:00 – 19:30
    • Night: 19:00 – 07:30
  • Schedule includes every other weekend and some holidays
  • No on-call required

Required Experience & Skills

  • CVICU experience required
  • Experience and knowledge of NextStage CVVH machine required
  • Experience in Cardiothoracic Surgery and/or Acuity Adaptable area preferred
  • Basic Arrhythmia experience required
  • Must pass a Telemetry test prior to start

Required Licenses & Certifications

  • Wisconsin Registered Nurse (RN) license
  • American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • American Heart Association (AHA) Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification

Testing & Competency Requirements

  • Telemetry test (Adult or Pediatric as applicable) with strict passing criteria:
    • Minimum 80% overall score
    • 100% in lethal rhythms subcategory
    • 100% on 3rd degree heart block questions (for Adult Telemetry)
  • Candidates allowed up to 3 attempts with remediation required after 2nd failure
  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam as applicable
  • Annual skills checklist required

Background & Compliance Requirements

  • Background check within 90 days prior to start, covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in last 7 years
  • Wisconsin Caregiver Background Check and BID Form (state-mandated) required prior to start
  • Monthly monitoring through workforce monitoring systems after hire
  • Education verification as applicable
  • Employment application required
  • Two clinical references within the last 3 years (Aya standard)

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray per facility guidelines
  • Annual TB questionnaire
  • Proof of immunity or vaccination (or approved exemption) for:
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR)
    • Varicella
    • Hepatitis B (vaccination series with positive titer or facility-specific declination form)
    • Seasonal Flu vaccine or approved medical/religious exemption (required annually during flu season)
  • Meningococcal vaccine or declination if working in Microbiology (within 5 years)
  • Drug screening per standard clinical requirements

Facility-Specific Requirements

  • Photo for badge (passport-style, no headwear except for religious/medical reasons)
  • Signed acknowledgment of Orientation Safety Manual and Pass/Fail Telemetry Testing
  • Completion of communicable disease form within 90 days of start
  • Medical or religious exemption forms for vaccines must follow facility approval process

Requirements / Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Wisconsin
  • Minimum of 1 year of Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit (CTICU) experience within the last year
  • Basic Arrhythmia experience
  • American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • American Heart Association (AHA) Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
