Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position

Location: Lexington, Kentucky
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • 3-4 weekend shifts per month (Friday or Saturday night)
  • Strong Neuro experience required
  • Previous travel experience required
  • Required certifications: NIHSS, ACLS, BLS
  • Skills and experience in:
    • Airway management
    • Management of vented patients
    • Arterial line (Artline) management (preferred for ER)
    • Management of dysrhythmias
    • Central line management
    • Management of IV drips
    • Isolation precautions
    • Triage skills (ER/ER Holding only)
    • Computerized documentation
    • Nurse to patient ratios 1:1-2+
    • NIH stroke scale (NIH)
    • Interpretation of ABGs and dysrhythmias
    • Continuous IV sedation and titration of IV vasopressors
    • Management of patients with multisystem organ dysfunction/failure
  • Experience with femoral-popliteal bypasses (fempops), carotid endarterectomies (CEAs), post thoracic surgeries, post craniotomies, and neurosurgeries
  • Minimum 1.5+ years of recent experience

Required Certifications

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA only
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA only
  • NIH Stroke Certification (must be within 1 year of start unless otherwise stated)
  • State Nursing License (Primary Source Verification required)
  • NURSYS Verification (for RNs)
  • CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) - as required by specialty
  • Pass/Fail EKG Test (for Med Surg/Tele, Tele, and ICU units)
  • Other certifications may be required depending on unit (PALS, NRP, EFM)

Background and Verification Requirements

  • 7-year criminal background check within one year of start, updated annually
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM checks required
  • HHS/OIG checks required
  • Education verification required (transcript or diploma acceptable if verification unavailable)
  • State-specific abuse registry check for Home Health specialties (KY)
  • 2 professional references required (1 for non-clinical)
  • Employment application required

Competency Requirements

  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (as applicable)
  • Color Blind Testing Online (required for all candidates)
  • Competency Exam (required for all clinical candidates)
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam (basic or advanced depending on specialty/unit)
  • Skills checklist (unit specific, updated annually)

Health and Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start
  • Fit mask test (annual) with accepted mask types; waiver process available for failed fit tests
  • Tdap vaccine within 10 years (declination acceptable for non-clinical)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year, updated annually
  • Baseline TB risk assessment within 90 days of start, updated annually
  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) - 2 vaccines or IgG titer required; declinations not accepted
  • Hepatitis B - surface antibody titer, series, or declination required
  • Varicella - 2 vaccines or IgG titer required; declinations not accepted
  • Negative 9-panel urine drug screen within 90 days of start
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Oct 1 - Mar 31); declinations not accepted
  • COVID-19 vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required; facility-specific exemption form must be completed

Facility Specific Requirements

  • Badge photo required (clear, no filters, solid background, shoulders up)
  • Respiratory fit test waiver process for failed fit tests (medical or religious reasons only)
  • Flu and COVID exemption forms accepted if approved by agency

Additional Notes

  • Candidate must have previous travel experience
  • Nurse to patient ratios typically 1:1 to 1:2+
  • Unit-specific certification and competency requirements may apply; verify with unit descriptions
