Unit Details
- CVICU unit does NOT allow travel pairs
- No holiday requests off (RTO) will be approved
- Manager prefers RNs with skills in:
- CRRT (Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy) – mandatory
- At least one of the following: IABP, Impella, Prismax CRRT, EVD Drain
- Patient population includes trauma, cardiovascular surgery (TAVRs, CABGs), neurosurgery, and other complex surgical patients
- Common diagnoses: acute ventilator needs, COVID+ with high O2 demand, DKA, severe sepsis, unstable GI bleed, trauma, open heart recovery, TAVR recovery, post-code blue, multi-system organ failure, CRRT needs
Requirements
- Licensure: Virginia or Compact Nursing License
- Certifications:
- ACLS (AHA provider card required)
- NIH Stroke Certification (AHA, APEX, or Blue Cloud accepted)
- Experience: Minimum 2 years in relevant critical care setting
- Skills:
- Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
- Arterial line management
- Blood product administration
- Ratios:
- CVICU: 1:2-3
- Floating to step-down unit: 1:3-4 (appropriate to skill and acuity)
- Floating: Yes, within scope to meet facility needs
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- On-call: No
- Block schedule: Not accommodated
- Locals accepted
Certifications & Competencies
- BLS (AHA provider card required)
- ACLS (mandatory)
- NIH Stroke Certification (required for CCU, ICU, Med Surg, ER, PCU)
- Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (required for RNs)
- Competency Exam (required for all clinical candidates)
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) required for ER; may be required as applicable
- Other certifications as applicable to specialty and unit
Health & Compliance Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year prior to start
- Fit mask (N95) with annual update required (except Sterile Processing and Non-Clinical Supply Chain Techs)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray as applicable
- Annual TB questionnaire if past positive TB history
- Immunizations or immunity documentation required for:
- Rubeola (Measles)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B
- Varicella
- Drug testing within 30 days prior to start (includes AMP, BAR, BZP, COC, MTD, METH, OPI, OXC, PCP)
- Seasonal flu vaccination/documentation required during flu season (9/1 - 3/31) or approved medical/religious exemption
- COVID-19 vaccination documentation required but not mandatory; declination accepted
Documentation & Background Checks
- Background check including lifetime package within 1 year prior to start
- Education verification of highest degree (diploma or official transcript required if verification delayed)
- NURSYS verification for all RNs
- State license primary source verification (VA license required)
- References: 2 required (one current year, one within last 2 years) from supervisors or equivalent
- Employment application and work history verification (minimum 2 years)
- Skills checklist required for all clinical candidates
- Facility-specific documents including code of conduct, confidentiality agreement, orientation packet, and Epic experience screening form must be completed prior to start
- Completion of mandatory WorkRamp orientation modules within one week of signing (approx. 8 hours)
