13-week contract
Night shift: 3x12 hours, 19:00-07:30
May rotate to 11a-11p shifts based on unit needs
Block scheduling cannot be accommodated
Start date: 10/5/2026

Required Qualifications

Valid RN license in Maryland
CVICU (2 years of experience)
CVICU experience within the last year
BLS issued by American Heart Association
ACLS issued by American Heart Association
NIHSS
CPI
Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
Immediate open heart post-op experience
Will accept local candidates
Will accept first-time travelers with CVICU experience and immediate open heart post-op experience

Unit Details

CVICU
6 beds
Average daily census: 3-5
Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:2
Floating required to MSICU as needed
On-call required: 24-36 hours on a rotating 6-week schedule
Every third weekend required
Holidays required as scheduled

Clinical Focus

Post-op cardiac surgery: CABG, MVR, AVR
Cardiac surgery re-admissions / ICU bounce-backs
Structural heart: TAVR, mitral clips
Pre-op patients on hospital intensivist list
STEMI/NSTEMI
Cardiogenic shock
Inari procedure
First 6 hours post-op may involve:
- 2 or more inotropic medications
- Hemodynamic instability
- Active management of cardiac output
- Extreme coagulopathy
- Open chest
- OHS/Impella
- ECMO
- CRRT
- IABP
- Surgeon discretion

Pros

The charge nurses and patient population is friendly.

Cons

They will short staff you every day. I got attitude multiple times when trying to take lunch 9 hours into my shift because ‘we don’t really do that here.’ Incredibly frustrating staffing levels, especially on the oncology floor.
