Respiratory Therapist
Overview
- Travel/contract role in Roanoke, Virginia
- Night shift: 3x12s, 7:00 PM–7:00 AM
- Every other weekend required
- 13-week contract
- Must float within skillset
- Patient population includes adolescents, adults, and geriatrics
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Respiratory Therapist license in Virginia
- Registered Respiratory Therapist with 1 year of experience
- Registered Respiratory Therapist experience within the last year
- BLS issued by American Heart Association
- ACLS issued by American Heart Association
- Critical care experience in a high-volume ER and Level 1 Trauma Center including Neurotrauma, cardiovascular services, and medical/surgical ICU
- Skilled administration of aerosol and medication delivery systems including Albuterol, Atrovent, Combivent, Flovent, Pulmicort, Mucomyst, racemic epinephrine, inhaled Flolan, inhaled steroids, bicarbonate, and lidocaine
- Competency in ABG interpretation and ventilator management including BiPAP, CPAP, HFNC, flow-by, troubleshooting high-pressure alarms, and weaning from mechanical ventilation
- Airway management including extubation, oral/nasal airway placement, suctioning, sputum collection, and tracheostomy care
- Proficiency in oxygen therapy and nebulizer setups including handheld, T-piece, trach collar, and ultrasonic
- Experience with Epic
Scheduling and Assignment Details
- One holiday required per 13-week contract
- Facility may call off 1 shift per 2 weeks
- First-time travelers accepted
- Local candidates not accepted
- Pending license accepted
- Other state licenses accepted with temporary Virginia authorization while permanent license is processed
Clinical Skills
- Ventilator support and troubleshooting, including BiPAP, CPAP, HFNC, and weaning from mechanical ventilation
- Airway procedures including extubation, oral/nasal airway placement, suctioning, sputum collection, and tracheostomy care
- Aerosol and medication delivery via mask, trach, MDI, and Medihaler
- Oxygen therapy and nebulizer setups including handheld, T-piece, trach collar, and ultrasonic
Documentation and Screening
- EPIC experience required
- Drivers license or state ID required within 48 hours of signing
- E-Verify or attestation required
- 7-year background check required
- Transcript or diploma required
- Education verification of highest earned degree required
- 2 clinical references required
- Physical exam within 1 year of start
- Fit mask testing within 1 year of start
- Negative TB screening within 1 year of start
- TB questionnaire required
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start
- Measles, mumps, rubella, hepatitis B, and varicella immunity or vaccination documentation required
- Employment application/resume required
- Skills checklist required
