Job Description
- Unit: Medical-surgical unit specializing in post-operative care of colorectal surgery patients.
- Patient Care: Includes patients requiring negative-airflow rooms; candidates must be fit-tested for N95 mask or trained on PAPR device use.
- Staffing Ratios: 1:5-6
- Floating: May be required to float to Med-Surg, PCU, ICU units with resources provided.
- Weekends: Expected to work every other weekend; consecutive weekends may be required based on operational needs.
- Charge Nurse: May be required to cover charge nurse responsibilities with training and resources provided.
- Call-In Policy: Call-in shifts must be made up during the pay period or added to the end of the contract depending on FTE status.
- First Time Travelers: Accepted
- Locals: Not accepted
- COVID-19 Vaccine: Required for all travelers; medical or religious exemptions accepted with documentation.
- Indiana RN Restriction: Effective 11/30/24, Indiana RNs are generally not allowed except for Periop/OR, Allied, and Ambulatory RN travelers (including ENDO, IR RN, PACU, Cath Lab RN, SDS).
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse license in Indiana
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Minimum 2 years of Medical-Surgical nursing experience, with recent Med Surg experience within the last year
- Certifications:
- BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by American Heart Association
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) issued by American Heart Association
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
- CHEMO (Chemotherapy certification)
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
Additional Notes
- On-site fit testing is limited and only available as a last resort at certain campuses.
- PAPR use is facility-approved and may be automatically approved at some locations.
- Travelers must comply with all facility-specific documentation and orientation requirements.
- Prior travel experience is not explicitly required; first-time travelers are accepted.
This position is ideal for experienced Medical-Surgical RNs who are comfortable with floating to different care levels, working in a fast-paced environment with trauma patients, and meeting strict immunization and compliance requirements.
