Job Description
Seeking a Registered Nurse to serve as a Clinical Documentation Specialist with experience in clinical documentation integrity. This role involves bedside nursing care and participation in clinical quality, patient safety, or related initiatives, with a focus on effective change management.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Illinois
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
- Minimum 2 years of bedside nursing care experience with participation in clinical quality, patient safety, or related initiatives, including evidence of effective change management skills
- At least 1 year of clinical experience within the last year
- Experience in clinical documentation integrity
- Experience as a Clinical Document Improvement Specialist
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Bystander Intervention Training Certificate
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Nursing
- CCDS (Certified Clinical Documentation Specialist) Certification
- Five years of experience in medical/surgical, critical care, intensive care, or emergency care preferred
Certifications Required
- BLS (Basic Life Support) – AHA or RQI accepted (required for all RNs)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – AHA or RQI accepted (required for certain specialties including ICU, Emergency Room, etc.)
- Other certifications may be required depending on specific clinical areas (e.g., PALS, NRP, EFM)
Compliance and Documentation Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year prior to start, confirming good health and ability to perform job duties
- Fit mask testing within 12 months, updated annually (3M Aura 1870+ required)
- Immunizations and titers including Tdap, TB testing, MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella), Varicella, Hepatitis B, Flu seasonal vaccination, and COVID vaccination or declination
- Drug screening (10 panel) within 30 days of start
- Background checks including 7-year criminal background, education verification, and license verification
- Illinois Healthcare Worker Registry fingerprinting and eligibility verification required prior to start (must be completed in Illinois)
Additional Information
- No weekend or on-call requirements
- Meal break length: 30 minutes
- Candidates must complete various facility-specific training modules and agreements prior to start
- Sexual harassment training required annually
