Position Details

Job Description

• Provide safe patient care in the Emergency Department using the nursing process: assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation.
• Deliver direct patient care within scope of practice.
• Guide patient/family teaching and supervise other nursing personnel.
• Communicate effectively with physicians regarding patient condition changes, diagnostic results, and symptoms.
• Respond quickly and accurately to changes in patient condition or treatment response.
• Maintain knowledge of EMTALA regulations and mandatory reporting of abuse.
• Maintain patient privacy and confidentiality.
• Float to other units as needed within competency.

Required Qualifications & Experience

• Current and valid California RN license.
• Minimum 1 year experience as a staff nurse in an acute care hospital, specifically in an Emergency Room setting.
• Current certifications:

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) – AHA or Red Cross
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) – AHA or Red Cross
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) – AHA or Red Cross
• Behavioral Violence Prevention (BVP) certificate.
• Meditech EMR experience preferred.
• COVID-19 vaccination preferred.

• Prime CA Sexual Harassment Prevention Training (valid for 2 years)
• PALS Certification
• ACLS Certification
• BLS Certification
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
• EDAP & EDAP II (within 6 months of start)
• Driver’s License or State ID or Passport
• Prime OIG Exclusion Check
• Prime SAM/EPLS Exclusion Check
• Prime Education Verification
• Prime Agency Attestation (completed last)
• Prime Resume (required for submission)
• Prime References #1 and #2 (required for submission)
• Prime Criminal Background Check (national, within 1 year)

• Prime Job Description (signed by employee)
• DCI/BVP (Workplace Violence Prevention training)

Health & Immunization Requirements (required before or at onboarding)

• COVID-19 Vaccine: 2 doses plus booster or declination completed
• MMR: Proof of 2 vaccines or positive titer; declinations accepted for this facility only
• Varicella: Proof of 2 vaccines or positive titer; declinations accepted for this facility only
• Hepatitis B: Required (declinations not accepted at some facilities)
• Influenza Vaccine: Required during flu season or declination (specific facility policies apply)
• Tuberculosis (TB) Test: Annual requirement
• Annual TB Questionnaire
• Positive PPD with Negative Chest X-Ray (optional)
• Tdap: Proof of immunity or declination form
• Physical/Health Statement: Annual, must state clear to work
• Fit Test: Annual respirator fit test required; must be completed prior to start or coordinated onsite if allowed
• Prime Drug Screening: Minimum 10-panel test including THC saliva test (California-specific requirements)
• Prime Color-blind Test: Annual, Relias accepted

Testing & Exams (required before or at onboarding)

• Prime Basic Pharmacology Exam (minimum 80%)
• Prime Basic Rhythm Interpretation Screening (minimum 80%)
• Prime Core Competencies Exam (minimum 80%)
• Prime Specialty Exam (minimum 80%)
• Prime Skills Checklist (required for submission)

Additional Notes

• The RN is responsible and accountable for patient care in the Emergency Department.
• Must be capable of floating to other units within competency.
• Knowledge of EMTALA and abuse reporting is essential.
• Maintaining patient confidentiality is mandatory.
