Job Opportunity: 4N Ortho-Neuro Nurse (RN)

Location: Parkersburg, West Virginia
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Unit & Specialty Details

• Unit: 4N Ortho - Neuro (1033)
• Beds: 33 private rooms
• Patient Ratios: 1 RN to 6 patients
• Common Diagnoses/Patient Types:

  • Elective surgeries (hips, knees, shoulders)
  • Fractures from falls
  • Back & neck neuro-surgeries
  • General MedSurg patients
• Experience Required:

  • Must have experience with ortho patients
  • Must have experience with PCA pumps
• EPIC experience is required

Certifications & Licenses

• BLS (AHA) certification required
• Valid West Virginia or compact nursing license required

Skills & Responsibilities

• No requirement to titrate drips
• Common drips: IV fluids and PCA pumps only (no heparin or other drips)
• Charge Nurse available 24/7; night charge nurse always takes a full patient assignment
• Patient Care Techs (PCTs) assist with vitals, FSBS, ADLs, and Foley catheter discontinuation
• Respiratory Therapy manages CPAP, BiPAP, and High Flow oxygen equipment
• Remote telemetry monitoring available; RNs do not read telemetry strips

Scheduling & Shifts

• 12-hour shifts:

  • Days: 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM (includes 30-minute lunch)
  • Nights: 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM (includes 30-minute lunch)
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend

  • Night weekends: Friday, Saturday, Sunday
  • Day weekends: Saturday, Sunday
• Holiday shifts may be required depending on unit staffing needs
• Travelers may be called off for low census (discuss specifics with recruiter)
• Floating: Travelers float first, primarily to MedSurg units; if floated to Tele, assignments will be within skillset

Orientation & Dress Code

• Orientation:

  • 1 day EPIC training
  • 1 day floor orientation with preceptor
  • 3rd day working independently
• Dress Code: Royal blue scrubs required

  • Scrub jackets optional but must be royal blue scrub jackets (no hoodies or sweatshirts)

Additional Notes

• All submittals must include an unexpired copy of the candidate’s driver’s license
• Time-off requests should be noted during prescreening
• Block scheduling may be allowed if unit needs are met
