Job Opportunity: Surgical Tech

Location: Uniontown, Pennsylvania
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Summary

Seeking a Surgical Tech with proficiency in orthopedic cases, particularly total joints (hips/knees). The role involves supporting a variety of surgical specialties including orthopedics, general surgery, urology, vascular, ENT, endoscopy (GI), gynecology, and ophthalmology. This position requires working in a busy OR environment with an average of 20-25 cases per day.

Work Environment & Schedule

• Shifts: 8-hour shifts, primarily 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM, with some variations including 9:00 AM – 5:30 PM and late shifts when multiple OR rooms are running.
• Call: Required approximately three times in a four-week block. Call response time is 45 minutes.
• Weekend Requirement: Work every 7th or 8th weekend, typically Sunday 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM with a specific rotation pattern.
• Holidays: 24-hour call coverage; physical presence only if called in.
• Floating: No floating outside of the OR.
• Orientation: Floor-specific orientation with an OR educator and two shifts with a preceptor.

Case Types

• Orthopedics: Total joints (hips/knees), sports medicine, hand, shoulder, spine (backs & necks)
• General Surgery: Laparoscopic procedures including gallbladder, hernias, colon resections
• Vascular: Carotid and femoral-popliteal procedures
• Urology: Cystoscopy, stent insertion, ureteroscopy, penile prosthesis
• ENT: Sinus procedures, thyroid, laryngoscopy
• Endoscopy (GI): Gastroscopy, colonoscopies (note: OR Techs typically do not work in endoscopy)
• Gynecology
• Ophthalmology: Cataracts

Note: No cranial, cardiac, or robotic surgeries involved. Must have experience in orthopedics, general surgery, and urology.

Required Qualifications

• Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) via NBSTSA preferred but not strictly required at this time.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (AHA) is required.
• Must be proficient (level 3 or higher) in total joint procedures.
• Valid, unexpired driver’s license required for submission.
• Disclosure of any professional license issues is mandatory.

Additional Information

• Scrubs are provided.
• EMR system currently Cerner, transitioning to Epic OpTime soon.
• 1:1 staffing ratio in the OR.
• Call schedule includes coverage from 9:00 AM – 5:30 PM with on-call until 7:00 AM the next day.
• Telemetry and ventilator support available; anesthesia present.
• Pharmacy and respiratory therapy available 24/7 onsite.

This position is ideal for Surgical Techs with solid orthopedic experience looking for a fast-paced OR environment with a diverse case mix and structured call and weekend schedules.
