Labor & Delivery RN

Overview

• Travel contract for an experienced Labor & Delivery nurse in California
• Contract length: 13 weeks
• Shift: Nights
• Hours: 36 per week

Required Qualifications

• Active CA RN license
• 2 years of current Labor & Delivery experience
• BLS
• ACLS
• NRP
• Advanced Fetal Monitoring
• Ability to titrate drips

Unit Details

• Unit: L&D
• 14 L&D beds
• 2 OR suites on the postpartum side
• Triage is done in Labor and Delivery
• No postpartum beds
• About 3–4 births per day; 1,100 last year
• Follows AWHONN guidelines for ratios
• Common patient types include laboring patients, inductions, cesareans, antepartum patients with issues, fetal demises, and triage patients with concerns at 20 weeks or greater
• 1 OB Tech on the unit
• OB/Neonatologist in house 24/7
• Tele monitoring is used for Mag moms
• EFM system: Fetal link with Cerner

Schedule

• 3 shifts per week
• Every other weekend required
• 1 major and 2 minor holidays
• 1 on-call shift every 2 weeks
• 1 day of orientation
• First to float

Additional Notes

• Common titratable/set-rate drips: Pitocin, insulin, magnesium
• Scrubs are light blue and supplied each shift
