Labor and Delivery Nurse

Role Overview

Travel contract for an experienced Labor and Delivery nurse in Bakersfield, California. This is a Nurse Shift Manager position with strong Charge experience needed.

Required Qualifications

• 2 full years of Labor and Delivery experience
• Active BLS
• Active ACLS
• Active NRP
• Active Advanced Fetal Monitoring certification
• Active California RN license
• Strong Charge experience
• Must be able to start own IVs

Preferred Qualifications

• Cerner charting experience

Unit / Assignment Details

• 18 LDRP rooms
• 6 triage spaces
• 8 overflow beds shared with med surg for women’s care center overflow
• 2 OR rooms that nurses self circulate
• Unit cares for L&D, recovery, postpartum, women’s health, high risk OB, and recovering babies
• Nurses float across L&D, postpartum, C-section, and women’s health
• L&D nurses must do antepartum and L&D postpartum
• 24/7 in-house OB and anesthesia coverage
• RT 24/7
• Pharmacy 24/7
• Level 2 NICU in house
• NICU charge nurse and RT attend all high risk deliveries
• Approx. 250 births per month

Schedule

• Nights
• 12-hour shifts
• 36 hours per week
• Every other weekend
• Must work one major and one minor holiday
• May be placed on standby as needed; if called in, response time is 30 minutes

Additional Notes

• 3-shift floor orientation
• GNOSIS online training for all OB nurses
• Training with perinatology safety specialists
• No elective deliveries under 39 weeks
• Baby-friendly practices include immediate skin-to-skin and early breastfeeding
• Usually only permanent staff do triage
